Outfits Under $50

I’m always on the lookout for a good bargain.  Most of my scores are found at my favorite spots like Marshall’s, T.J. Maxx and Ross but I will shop anywhere at anytime as long as it has the right fit.  Lately I’ve been noticing that a lot of my outfits have been ranging from about $50-$100 so I decided to share my top 5 under $50 and next month $100. To start things off I decided to go with my latest buy a chambray top from Walmart.  I already have a bunch of chambray tops (one with polka dots, one with florals and a thick dark denim one that I sometimes use as a little jacket) so I wasn’t looking to buy more.  However, I walked by the  clearance rack at Walmart and spotted this light weight studded chambray top for $9 and I had to have it.  At $9 it’s got all the right details, a studded collar that I love, tab sleeves and the fabric is light enough to wear all year. Thinking it would be great to wear as a beach cover up… I have lots of plans for it but this time I wanted to pair it up with a mini and my brown sandals.  Not bad for an entire outfit under $50. 🙂

What I’m Wearing:

Chambray Top – $9 at Walmart

Mini Skirt – $7.99 at Ross
Sandals (also seen here) – $24.99 from a local boutique
Necklace – $5 from a Brooklyn boutique wish I could remember the name of the store
Clutch c/o meet mark
Bracelet c/o Twisted SIlver

Quilted Black Booties & Tights

I have hundreds of pair of shoes!  I’m such a shoe freak that if I happen to find shoes that I absolutely love, I buy multiple pairs.  My particular weakness has always been boots – whether high heeled boots, riding boots, or even cowboy boots – because they make any outfit ooze the perfect rough and tumble vibe.  To say that I was super excited to not only work with DSW again (you can see my last post here) but also be sent two pair of boots of my choice would be an understatement!

Picking a pair of boots that I liked was easy; narrowing it down to two was a little tough because DSW has an enormous selection of styles.  I wanted a little bit of a challenge, so I chose two completely different looks.  For my first pick, I went with a pair of high heel boots.  I loved the fact that they had the perfect combo of sexy with its sky-high heels but also edgy with a buckle, quilt and rubber soles.  The details are definitely on point!  When I first put them on I was a little skeptical about the heel being SO high.  I’m pretty comfortable in heels but sometimes they can be slippery and hard to walk in – that was not the case with these boots.  The rubber soles kept them solid and the platform made them comfy and easy to walk in.

I decided to pair the booties with a little black dress, tights to add warmth and texture and a favorite oversized cardigan for a cozy touch.  This is something I would wear on a chilly night out to dinner with the girls or even on a date night. It’s super comfy, stylish and sexy.  Stay tuned to see my next pair of boots and how I styled them!

Leopard Heels Three Ways

If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw the pictures of me debating which pair of shoes to buy while out shopping at DSW. Well, I decided on the leopard print heels (like many of you suggested) and since the weather has finally begun to get a tad cooler down here in Florida and it was perfect timing for me to style my new favorite pair of shoes from DSW! I was so excited when I was offered the opportunity to not only choose a pair of shoes of my liking but to also style them three different ways for fall. Picking one pair was super hard because DSW has an enormous amount of shoes and boots to pick from, but I decided to step away from boots (my weakness) and instead go with these leopard heels  to give my fall outfits a sexy touch. The leopard print is a perfect addition to my fall outfits and I came up with so many looks I had a hard time picking just three.
My first look is perfect for a day of shopping. I kept it simple with boyfriend jeans and sweater but the heels made the outfit pop!

Leopard Heels Three Ways

For a date night look I went with all black. This outfit can easily be worn for a lot of my upcoming holiday events.

Leopard Heels Three Ways

In my third and favorite look I wore a long sleeve mini dress and an army green vest. It’s perfect for a casual weekend or even a casual day at work with some tights.

How would you style these leopard print beauties for fall?

Go Big Or Go Home

This is my first outfit post after having a baby and I was a bit nervous about what to wear (I’m still sporting a post baby pooch) and how I would look because I still have a lot of weight to lose but the theme of this post made me push beyond my fear and GO BIG!  I was sent a bottle of Salon Grafix hair spray and dry shampoo to review and showcase along with my style and  if you know me you know that those are two of my must have hair styling products!

Salon grafix Go Big Or Go Home

When it comes to my style/outfits I’ve always liked to pick one focus piece and let it shine. In this case it’s the white midi dress (I folded down the top and wore it as a skirt).  It’s a great piece to layer and it lets me flaunt my post baby curves.  I paired it with casual functional pieces and then gave it a little oomph by adding the oversized clutch and super high heels.

Outfit Details

Now onto the hair products: I use dry shampoo even after I wash my hair so I really wanted to give this a fair shot and use it a couple days after a wash.  Because I wear my hair in a very beachy/wavy/messy way it has to have a good texture. I’ve tried other brands and they just dry it up and tangle it, and that’s NOT the case with Salon Grafix.  I washed my hair and gave it 3 days to build up a little oil and I didn’t touch my curling iron so that I could test out the hairspray on my waves.

Long Wavy Hair

I started by brushing my hair out, then I sprayed the dry shampoo liberally and brushed my hair again – It instantly gave my hair a nice fresh scent, left it super soft with lots and lots of volume which is a huge plus for me because I love BIG undone hair AND it gave my hair some much needed color to my roots.  I then sprayed my ends with a light mist of hair spray and curled the ends. Next, I resprayed a couple of times and ran my fingers through it (that’s how I know if the curl will hold) and as I expected it held!  Both products kept my hair looking clean, held my big long waves and it smelled great!

Black & White

SO happy I can still squeeze into this black  dress and my favorite white blazer.  Love the black and white combo for an evening look and the red bag for a pop of color.  I’ll definitely have this red bag in hand a lot during the holidays.  Wondering why I’m rocking the animal print heels a lot lately?  They’re one of the very few heels that still fit me comfortably.  Thank God I love them. 🙂

Shoes are comfy for about 20 minutes.  Had to put them aside to finish taking pictures.  Good thing I packed my flats inside my bag 🙂

Five Christmas Party Fashion Tips

December 7, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

This holiday season, you might want to consider some fresh fashion alternatives to set yourself apart from the red satin and black sequin brigade at festive functions.

There is a healthy variety of textures and hues to explore in the current crop of holiday pieces. The wise place to start is with an honest assessment of your budget. You should account for your projected gift list, extra groceries and gas for travel and any other fees you can think of.

Once you do that, you will have a clear plan of how to maximize your holiday dressing with a healthy dose of chic.

Sparkle on a Shoestring Budget

If you can honestly say you can’t afford a new dress this season, consider re-working some old favorites.

You can breath new life into a plain black strapless dress by donning a lace bodysuit underneath it or investing in a new lace shrug. A simple side braid or low ponytail will help keep the look streamlined and you can add interest by creating a custom belt or headband for shine.

The simplest way to achieve this is by purchasing some black grosgrain or satin ribbon and sewing on clusters of rhinestone buttons or a pretty brooch in the center to create a unique accent.

If you have an old pantsuit, you can take it to the tailor to have the pants brought in and tapered to a pretty retro cigarette pant length. This will allow you to put the focus on a new pair of glitzy pumps in a fashion-forward shade such as chartreuse, blush or royal blue.

Host a Fashion Swap

If you have a few stylish friends or family members, you may want to pool your resources before the holidays to give everyone fresh looks without ever opening a wallet.

Your formal brocade pencil skirt might look stellar with your friend’s black gloves, velvet booties or plum tights.

Be sure to have each lady bring the same amount of pieces to the party so each person is more likely to end up with a complete look.

Skim the Sales Racks

You can find some great unconventional colors on the clearance racks if you look carefully.

Late summer pieces in cream can easily become winter white with some careful styling. A gold sequined cardigan or black textured tights will make you look decidedly more expensive.

Mint green has also quietly become a hot color in 2013. A mint green brocade dress from spring will look “Mad Men” sexy when paired with a vintage fur neck wrap and some deep bronze leather kitten heels. You can keep the look from looking too costume-y by pairing it with a messy milkmaid braid or loose waves.

Play Frankenstein

Perhaps you have an old black tulle formal dress hanging in the black of your closet. You could easily have the skirt cut off and hemmed into a fresh high-low shape. A cropped mohair sweater will keep you on trend.

Or you can have the back of a plain black blazer cut out and replaced with appliqued lace for a new take on drama.

With a little imagination, the clothes in your closet can be re-mixed into something worthy of a private boutique.

Invest Wisely in New Pieces

If you discover you do have the funds to buy a new dress, try to look for one that will give you some more mileage into other seasons.

Fuschia, emerald green and goldenrod are great jewel tones that look just as perfect in the spring and fall as they do in front of a Christmas tree. Look for classic shapes that have a modern twist, such as an exposed zipper, peplum or a modest cutout.

With a little planning, you will be the best dressed at every party you attend.

Lace Maternity Dress

I’ve been searching high and low for a dress to wear on New Year’s Eve and it hasn’t been the easiest task.  Sure they’re tons of cute maternity dresses but they never ever seem to fit me the way I want them to.  They’re always too lose at the bottom giving it a tent like look.  I understand the purpose of the fit and I’m all about the comfort but when it comes to just wanting to look and feel normal for one night and snap some pics it just doesn’t work for me.  In comes Pink Blush maternity who graciously sent me a beautiful burgundy lace dress that not only fits me perfectly but it also has three quarter sleeves, a flattering must and a good amount of stretch for comfort. I literally did the happy dance when I opened the package.  The burgundy color gives the affordable dress a luxurious look that would be perfect with any of my heels once I have the baby and can fit back into them.  Check it out below and make sure to check back next week where I will style the other adorable piece that they sent me.

Maxi Dress From Day To Night

If there’s one thing I’ve learned this pregnancy it’s that a maxi dress is your best friend.  I’ve always worn them but never have I appreciated them as much as I have these past couple of months.  Besides being the comfiest thing to wear in between sizes, they’re SO versatile and great for post baby as well.  This one from meet mark has been sitting in my closet forever because it was too big but now it’s a real life saver. I LOVE the blue and its lace cap sleeves.  I’ve worn it a ton of times in so many different ways for day and night.  For day I wear it with my green anorak, chain link necklace and my one of my favorite lucky brand bag (which comes in handy to when switching out heels for flats when your feet can’t take it anymore). For night, I just added a sparkly necklace, metallic satchel and took off the jacket.

I love the way black and brown look together.  It screams fall and it gives the color black a cozier feel.  It’s a great casual look that can easily be worn by pairing with comfy leggings and brown boots.  Perfect weekend outfit or for the busy mom on the go.  Pair with a blazer, a chunky knit sweater, a tunic or even a sweatshirt and you’re good to go!  Check out some affordable leggings and brown boots that will go with just about anything sitting right in your closet and check out how I wore my new brown boots from Kmart in last weeks copycat.

Whenever the weather starts to get chilly and the holidays are right around the corner I always have the sudden urge to break out some plaid.

Plaid Button Down $14.99 at Marshall’s | White Skinny Maternity Jeans on sale for $24.99 at ASOS | Animal Print Heels $14.99 from Target (also seen here) | Watch c/o Timex | Phillip Lim for Target Tote | Studded Green Wallet $9.99 from Ross

A plaid blazer with leather sleeves is perfect for jeans and booties!  Wear with a chunky knit scarf or sweater for a cozy effect.
