Find Your Perfect Colour Palette

It can be all too easy to stick to the same old neutral colours when it comes to planning our look – many of us find the thought of trying daring new colours a little daunting. However, if you know what colour palette works for your complexion and tone then there’s no reason why you can’t experiment with something a little different, and know you’ll look great!

If you’re lucky enough to still have a summer holiday planned for this year then it’s the perfect opportunity to try something different. Swimwear can be a great area to experiment with and there’s a great range of swimwear online at the moment. The unfamiliarity of a new place gives you free reign to try something new.

We’ve all been in that situation where we’ve tried on a dress that looks fantastic on the model but on us it just doesn’t look right. In the same way as you might not team your red leather handbag with your bright green summer dress, some colours can clash with our hair colour, complexion and even eye colour.

So, to take away some of the stress we’ve put together a failsafe guide to finding your perfect colour palette.

Three foolproof colours

There are certain colours which look great on the majority of skin tones and these are; teal, purple and navy, great for the autumnal months which are approaching. However, if you want to stand out, want to try a vibrant colour palette, or are still basking in the cheerful colours of the summer months then follow this handy guide.

What to wear if you have a light complexion…

If your skin is pale and translucent, if your hair colour is blonde or ash and your eyes are light grey or blue, then cool, pastel colours are the ones for you.

Opt for lilacs, light greens or even a striking aqua which will make the most of your features and enhance your skin tone. Try to avoid dark colours as these may give you a ‘washed out’  look.

What to wear if you have a dark skin tone…

If you have a rich, dark skin tone then you’re in the perfect position to try out some vibrant, striking colours. Unlike with paler skin tones which can be overpowered by strong colours, bright pinks and oranges can look great with a darker complexion. If you’re feeling particularly daring, you could even give neon colours a go.

What to wear if you have a warm complexion…

Perhaps you have olive skin or are lucky enough to have a great tan. You may have dark eye colouring and chestnut or auburn hair. If this is the case then greens and khakis are the best colours to set off your skin tone. Often the more vivid colours can clash with your complexion rather than compliment it.

What to wear if you have a cool tone…

Women who are approaching a certain age in their life and perhaps have a grey colouring to their hair can often be seen to have a cool tone. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to stick to neutral colours; pinks, lilacs and turquoises are perfectly suited to this type of tone.

Finding the right colour palette for you can really transform your wardrobe. You may find you discover colours which you didn’t think would suit you before and you may realise why some colours just weren’t working for you. So, have a think about which skin tone applies to you and follow our trusty guide for your next shopping trip!

Stylish Swimsuits

With summer around the corner and my weight loss efforts in full gear, I’m starting to get excited about trying different styles of stylish swimsuits.  So far I’ve gotten a striped bikini and a pastel tankini but as the numbers on the scale go down my choice in swimsuits are getting a tad smaller! 🙂  Nothing too skimpy; just want to enjoy all the hard work I’ve put into losing the weight!  In my last swimsuit post I covered the trends and patterns in bathing suits for women but this time I wanted to focus more on the fits and my favorite cover ups.  Believe it or not, most of my swimsuit shopping is online and I’ve really lucked out with great selections and bargains.  The r collection by raisins swimwear has bold fun prints that make it easy to mix and match prints and fits.  I love mismatched bathing suits and style them just as I would an outfit with accessories, and raisins swimwear is perfect just for that!

Tankini

This tankini has the perfect balance of sexy and coverage.  I love the open back and halter front.  This one allows the best of both worlds – it’s not just a tankini for juniors!  I can even see the top worn with a maxi skirt after a day on the beach.

 Bikini

This bikini is my favorite and I hope by this summer I am shape to wear it. But if you’re lucky enough to pull it off go for it!  This top is adorable and will definitely  stand out on the beach…and like the top in the tankini it can be worn with a skirt or shorts – so cute!

Bandeau

A roll waste pant bikini bottom in a one of a kind bandeaus swimsuit that’s a must have.  The flattering style provides coverage on all the right spots and makes it easier to pull off a bandeau top by balancing out the top and bottom (I own three and swear by them).

One Piece

While I’m definitely enjoying the fact that I can wear a two piece this year, I’m also a mom and need to have a one piece handy.  This sun goddess one piece by r collection gives both the sexy in the back and coverage in the front  – perfection!!

Cover-up

My absolute favorite part of swimsuit shopping is picking out a cute beach cover up!  Normally I would pick out something loose and comfy but I also love the idea of a cute romper.  A solid romper can be worn all day and night over swimsuits.  A must have for vacation or even just for fun with a pair of wedges.

2013 Summer Bathing Suit Trends

When it comes to bathing suits I need to have variety because they’re worn year round here in Florida.  For the most part it’s nice to be able to strolll on the beach any time of the year, but it can be a bit exhausting thinking about being bathing suit ready ALL YEAR!  With that in mind I treat my bathing suits like I do my clothes.  I look for trends and fits that flatter, rather than the itsy bitsy bikini (although I do keep one handy for those days I’m feeling brave) and I also keep an eye out for pieces that can be mixed and matched.  This year women’s swimwear is so fun and playful!  I’m loving the retro fits that are fun and flirty, color blocked two pieces that are great for mixing and matching and classic nautical stripes that never go out of style making them a great investment.  Tip: Tempted to stick to a one piece?  Try a tankini instead (see below). They give you the coverage and the option of swapping out the top or bottom for a sexier look.  Which ever style you decide to go with, Anne Cole swimwear has got you covered.  Check out my favorite bathing suits under $100.

Color Blocking: A trendy color block bikini with just the right amount of coverage!  Tip: Tie a large bright scarf off your beach bag and later on you can use it as a shrug. Color Block One Piece – $66

Stripes: This striped bikini is perfect to mix with solid pieces like the one below. Tip: When choosing stripes keep in mind that the smaller they are the smaller you look. Camel In The Sand Bikini – $36

Classics: A navy bikini is always in style and a must have for mixing and macthing. Tip: When mix and matching swimsuit pieces opt for a solid bottom.  It’s a lot easier to wear a printed top than bottom. Marilyn Halter Side Tie Bikini – $31.50

Retro: A floral print tankini is perfect for stylish moms on the go.  Tip: Keep a cotton cardigan on hand if you plan on making it a whole day at the beach. Desert Floral Tankini – $46.50

Summer Basic: A solid black swimsuit is just like your favorie little black dress – easy to wear for day or night.  Tip: Keep a maxi skirt tucked in your beach bag and you’re good to go for dinner or a stroll on the boardwalk. Lingerie Malliot One Piece  – $78

Stylish:  A embellished one piece swimsuit screams glamour!  It’s the bathing suit you take on your vacation and then sit by the pool and sip on a pina colada! 🙂 Beaded Bikini– $52
