Stripes are my favorite pattern and I’m always looking for ways to incorporate them into my outfits. It’s such a classic pattern that will never go out of style and I just love the way it gives outfits an effortless laid back feel. Best of all stripes are super easy to dress up or down and can be worn as an accent in the form of accessories or even shoes. During the warmer seasons stripe exude a nautical vibe but it’s such a versatile pattern that it can stand on its own in any season and in any color (although my personal fave is basic black and white). A striped linen blazer will give any of your basic favorites a polished look. Wear over a tank or tee with cut off shorts or jeans.
Striped tank tops are a must have for every season and style! I have probably a dozen in tons of colors and styles and I let them peek out underneath tees, sweaters and jackets.
I love me a striped skirt! A casual “Audrey Hepburn” like piece that’s perfect for spring and summer nights.
A striped boat neck sweater is the epitome of spring! Give it a go with bright skinny jeans and heels.
This peplum and stripe dress is so chic and flattering (click here to see Kourtney Kardashian in a peplum and stripe outfit). The peplum can help create curves and flatter those who have them while the thin stripes provide all the style. Pair with a denim jacket and a colored belt for some extra oomph.
It’s Time for Springtime.

The old saying, “if it ain’t broke. don’t fix it,” perfectly describes how I feel about must-have basic pieces in fashion. Trends come and go but basics never go out of style, particularly certain patterns and colors. To that end I decided to start a series of posts called The Formula to highlight my favorite style “ingredients.” The most obvious one to start with is stripes and if you follow my posts then it’s obvious by now that I love stripes. I literally wear the pattern in some shape or form about 3 times a week. Tip: The thinner the stripe the better – keep that in mind when choosing anything with stripes.

“It’s way too matchy match” is a phrase I use so often that even my kids know what I mean! My pet peeve has little to do with color. To me style should look effortless and when the pieces you’re wearing are too matchy match it looks intentional. Take for example my favorite pattern stripes. I always have a striped tank, a striped scarf, or a striped sweater (like the one below) on hand whenever I feel something is a little too matchy match. My general rule of thumb is, if it’s going to be a matchy match kinda outfit I’d rather go the monochromatic way and use the color head to toe. Intentional? Heck yeah but it’s a minimalist style that so chic – it supposed to be intentional. Below I paired one of favorite striped sweaters, polka dot denim top and ankle zip skinnies.

I’ve had this lightweight anorak from Marshall’s for about 3 years and every fall I pull it out and finds tons of new ways to wear it, I think it cost me only about $20 and this baby never goes out of style (it’s my “other denim jacket”). Check out what I wore it with below and similar options as well.
