I LOVE everything about this tiger print  chiffon top!  It’s got every single element that a stylish top should have – the print is bold and sophisticated, the studded collar is adorable, and the black zippered back makes the front pop even more!  This is one of those pieces that will have people thinking you spent a lot more than $36 and it will definitely turn some heads.  Perfect to layer under blazers or cardigans, wear alone as a mini dress (with shorts underneath of course) and sky high heels or with bright leggings and flats.  Check out how to rock this top three different ways below.

After a few failed attempts in creating a pretty spring manicure  I came across these matte nails.

I love the green it’s a nice change to my favorite Essie polish in licorice and I just bought Revlon’s matte  polish.  I figured this a nice way to ease myself into an actual manicure and I’m pretty sure I can handle this one. 🙂

Metallic Mini Skirts

Anything metallic instantly looks more speical and stands out – especially a metallic mini skirt. Despite what you might think, a metallic mini can be worked into your wardrobe for day wear, and be used just as often as a pair of colored skinny jeans. What I love about a metallic mini is that it does all the work. Sure, you can dress it up even more with accessories and heels, but for the most part it’ll make pieces like a denim shirt, or a simple tee look extra sleek and edgy. Tip: give the heels a break! Try pairing with sandals or casual sneaks for an eclectic daytime look.

I’m determined to give myself a decent mani and have been looking everywhere for easy DIY tutorials and inspirations.  I’ve never had the patience to sit down and try to do anything other than a basic two coat mani, but the nail craze has bitten me and I’m on a mission!  Below are some of my favorites that I’ve yet to try, but when I do if (and it’s even half way decent) I will definitely post about it. 🙂

Simple, pretty and sparkly!

I love stripes and this would be so cool but I’d try it on a pedicure because IMO it’s a bit busy for a manicure.

What’s spring without a trench?  While most people have a trench hanging in there closet, it’s usually beige, black or white.  But this season is all about going bold!  Consider trying a fun and bright trench that will really stand out in the crowd. Tip:  go light when buying a trench that way you can get tons of wear out of it by styling it more as a blazer.

Orange Trench Coat – $60

This bright orange trench would look perfect over stripes or florals.

Sky Blue Trench Coat – $155

A baby blue trench screams spring and would sweeten a pair of leather leggings.

Double Breasted Trench Coat – $122

Try a yellow double breasted trench like Olivia Palermo and Zoe Saldana.

Faux Leather Panel Trench Coat – $65

This trench isn’t exactly bright but it’s got  so much style it doesnt need it!  Pair it with a white tank and boyfriend jeans and you’re good to go!

Although lately I’ve been adding more and more color to my outfits , I always gravitate towards black and white.  That’s why I’m so happy that this spring season is seeing a lot of black and white mixed in with all of the bright, fun outfits.  Sure, the black and white trend is as basic as it gets, but when you pair them with spring florals and bright items, they become statement pieces.  One of the easiest ways you can wear the black and white trend this spring is right in your hand with a designer handbags for less!  From a color blocking satchel paired with jeans, or a striped clutch with a floral dress to a black and white tote for work or a fun polka dot bag – it’s sure to be the eye catching accessory in your wardrobe.  Check out some easy ways to incorporate these basic colored handbags into your wardrobe for spring below.

Black & White Tote | Maxi Dress | Gladiator Sandal

Totes can pretty much be worn with anything, anywhere!  Carry this black and white tote to work and then on the weekends with a pretty maxi dress and sandals.

Besides my kids excitement for Easter egg hunts and candy filled baskets, I always try to fit in a little Easter outfit shopping for myself.  The kids generally stick to the traditional themed attire for the day, but for me the Easter outfit consists of a functional dress that allows me look stylish while also participating in the egg hunt and other festivities.  I also try to pick a dress that can be worn all through spring and preferably even summer.  This Easter I’ll be wearing a lace shift dress and flats to keep me comfy all day! Check out some of the pretty spring dresses from Target below that are perfect for Easter.

A dainty lace dress similar to the one I’m wearing above is feminine enough for day or night.

Lace Bodice Dress – $49.99 | Blue Handbag – $19.99 | Pointy Toe Flats – $29.99

This seersucker dress screams spring and is pretty much a no brainer.  It’s sort of a grown up version of a little girls Easter outfits.  🙂 Wear with a light cardigan and pumps for a traditonal spring look.

Sleeveless Seersucker Dress – $29.99 | Quilted Chain Cross Body – $16.99 | Pointy Toe Heels – $29.99

Any dress with pockets is alright with me!  This floral dress for only $24.99 is one of those dresses that can be worn all year round.  It can be paired with a pair of wedges on Easter morning or a blazer and tights for work.

Floral Dress With Pockets – $24.99 | Wedges – $29.99 | Red Satchel – $32.99

A tulip wrap dress with a retro floral print plus a denim jacket is flawless!  Pair with bright heels for a sexy vibe.

Pretty Pastel Picks for Spring

March 1, 2013 by

The one trend I’m super excited about for spring is pastels! Ever since I was little, any shade of pastel would quickly remind me that spring was right around the corner.  My mom would buy me pretty dresses and accessories in all sorts of pastel shades and I loved it!  Not much has changed since then, accept that now I buy my own dresses and sometimes I let my mom borrow them!   I love how sweet pastel shades have a very feminine, laid-back feel making it a really easy color to incorporate into just about any outfit. Better yet, the low key vibe of pastels also make it easy to mix and match with lots of other colors and trends..

I started wearing my pastels a little early this season and as seen here I chose to match it up with my favorite pair of Mossimo colored skinny jeans, Prabal Gurung for Target heels (that really compliment the freshness of pastels), a simple white button down, a pastel pink ring and clutch .  But I’ve also had great results with a chambray button down and brown flats.  Pastels  really are easy to wear in tons of different ways and they have definitely added a cheery dose of color to my cooler weather tops.  Check out some of my favorite pastel pieces from Target and how I plan on incorporating  pastels into my wardrobe this season for day and night.

Day

Mossimo Dolman Sleeve Tee – $8 | Mossimo Colored Skinny Jeans– $27.99 | Mossimo Boyfriend Jacket – $29.99 | Bead Cluster Necklace – $20.98 | Prabal Gurung for Target heels – $39.99 | Envelope Cross Body Clutch – $19.99 |

If paired with the right pieces pastels can be worn as the neutral color in your outfit. I’m going to incorporate easy pieces like  this dolman sleeve tee and pastel skinny jeans that can be built up with blazers and cardigans.  Feminine colors like these pop when worn with black or brown shoes and bags giving you more options to play with.

Night

Sleeveless Peplum Dress  – $27.99 | Prabal Gurung for Target  Clutch$34.99 | Merona Skinny Belt – $12.99 | Prabal Gurung for Target Heels – $39.99 | Crystal Bib Necklace – $34.99

For evening, pastels mean fun and I plan on pairing them with with sequins, animal prints and  a little black leather for an edgy finishing touch.

Accessories

One of my favorite and easiest ways to add pastel shades to my wardrobe has always been with accessories like scarfs, belts, handbags and even shoes.  I plan on adding pastel belts to my little black dresses and a structured jacket.  Not only will it give my little black dress extra style but it will also emphasize my waist and that’s my go – to accessory for a slimming and detailed effect.

La Mer Watch – $39.99 | Loop Scarf – $14.99 | Pastel Nail Polish – $7.79 | Studded Belt – $14.99 | Crossbody Handbag – $19.99 | Hidden Wedge Flats – $22.99

It’s Time for Springtime.  No matter which way you to decide to add pastels, Target makes it super easy and affordable to incorporate the pastels trend into your wardrobe.

Kohl’s Spring Trends Video Shoot

June 8, 2012 by

A few months ago I was flown out to NY by Glam for an amazing opportunity to participate in a video shoot for Kohl’s spring trends. Not only am I a huge fan of Kohl’s, but just as fun I got to meet Glam’s fashion director Nola (in the middle) and a lot of other fab bloggers that were also invited (see below).  The video of this experience is now up on Kohls.com (click on picture below to watch video).

I’m not going to lie I was soooo nervous throughout the entire process. I’m used to sitting behind a computer and not in front of a camera!  But I have to admit the production staff and Glam team were amazing and it was an experience that I will never forget.

For my part, I was selected to highlight Kohl’s tropical trend theme and tried on tons of clothes from the likes of ELLE, Jennifer Lopez Collection and LC Lauren Conrad.

The first outfit I picked was a fun and flirty dress with stripes by ELLE (I love stripes!), but because I also wanted it to have a transitional look, I paired it with a cardigan from the Jennifer Lopez Collection, a ELLE  belt to accentuate my waist and wedges also from ELLE.

For the second outfit I wanted an easy day-to-night look, so I went with a basic blazer by LC Lauren Conrad, a pretty floral dress from Simply Vera Vera Wang and gold wedges (also seen here) from the Jennifer Lopez Collection.  I dressed up the whole look with a glam necklace by Simply Vera Vera Wang.

Must-have Spring Accessory: The Belt

Must-have Spring Accessory: The Belt

Updating your spring and summer wardrobe is a cinch this year. All it takes are a few well-chosen belts. If the statement necklace was last year’s must-have fashion accessory, the bold belt is 2012’s style essential. From skinny, neon waist-nippers to embellished corset-like hip-huggers, the belt was everywhere on the spring runways.

Embracing the belt can add shape and chic to the most humdrum outfit, says Phoenix stylist Fawn Cheng. “You can refresh a tired dress or an oversized top by cinching it with a brightly colored belt,” she says. The smocked tee that feels about as sexy as a tablecloth? The boho peasant blouse you wore to death last summer and now seems as fresh as expired milk? “They’re both scorning to be tuned into new silhouettes with an eye-catching belt,” says Cheng.

Belts are also crafty accessories when it comes to flattering your figure. If you’re short-waisted, sporting a low-slung belt will create the illusion of an elongated torso. Try a chain-link version for a modern look. Long-waisted? Balance out your proportions with a wide belt worn at your waist.

Here are four belts you’ll want to add to your warm-weather wardrobe:

1. Glitzy. Skinny or wide, elasticized or leather, the statement belt of the season features a bold medallion buckle in plated or hammered gold, silver or brass. Cheng likes to see the wide version worn high on the waist — right under the rib cage — to add edgy glamour to a body-conscious dress. Or put a slimmer medallion belt through the loops of your flared jeans or trousers for understated elegance. The Italian designer Balmain offers a half dozen takes on this signature piece, ranging from $800 to more than $3,000. You can find stylish alternatives at stores like Urban Outfitters and Zara for a tiny fraction of that price.

2. Colorful. “Shocking sorbet” is what Cheng has dubbed this season’s collection of belts in vivid hues — fuchsia, tangerine, baby blue, coral and chartreuse. They’re the perfect way to introduce color into a neutral or all-white outfit. Or, to update a preppy look, consider a neo-neon combination like a carnation pink cardigan punctuated with a lime green patent-leather belt.

3. Safari-inspired. For spring, Michael Kors showed his version of what a chic woman might wear while enjoying cocktails at a luxe gaming lodge. Models strutted down the runway in animal and camouflage prints — and utilitarian colors like khaki, olive and brown — all in supple fabrics. The standout accessory was his fashion-forward interpretation of the frumpy fanny pack: a gorgeous burnished leather strap slung twice around the waist — once through the belt loops and then just below — tied on one end and with a small leather purse on the other. The purse-belt is perfect for hands-free toting of your essentials. Ralph Lauren, Diane von Furstenberg, Fendi, Hermes and Yves Saint Laurent are all offering their luxe take on the belt bag. You can also find affordable versions from LeSportsac and, of course, Michael Kors.

4. Corset. Thick, waist-cinching belts show off a woman’s ladylike curves. They’re an edgy match — especially in metallic — for the peplum skirt you’ll be wearing this spring and summer. You’ll also find casually playful versions in more forgiving woven leather. These look smashing with a traditional trench, a structured jacket, or high-waisted trousers and a white shirt. Corset belts might be a fleeting trend, so you probably don’t want to make this an investment piece. Instead, have a fling with an inexpensive option from a store like Forever 21 or Anthropologie.
