Maternity Outfits: Cardigan For Day & Night

Well it’s now been 10 days since I’ve been on bed rest for contractions (you can read all about it here and here).  Gone (for now) are the days of getting dressed and taking outfits pictures. Not that I’m complaining it just feels like time is literally frozen and although I’m beyond grateful that I’m even able to sit at home and rest it does seem unreal that I can’t even go to Target or cook my kids a meal (actually that’s one the very few bonuses of bed rest – I hate cooking).  With that said I had a few outfit posts scheduled for this month and because of the bed rest I decided instead to feature the item I was going to initially wear and some outfits that I would be wearing if I wasn’t on bed rest.  🙂

For this post the focus is on the cozy crotchet cardigan from Pink Blush.  I paired it with a simple tee and booties for day and for night I paired it with a sexy pencil skirt and a plum colored top.  Each and every item in both outfits can easily be combined to form an entirely different outfit or worn with just about anything in your closet.  Great maternity pieces that can be worn post baby as well.  Check out the looks below.

Target Style Series: How To Style A Pencil Skirt

Pencil skirts have this classic-yet-sexy Audrey Hepburn vibe that never goes out of style – and if not already, should be a staple in your closet.  They’re easily worn from day to night and with affordable picks like the ones by Merona from Target the options are endless!! Contrary to popular belief, the pencil skirt is actually universally flattering with a cut that looks long and lean on any  shape (with the right pieces).  I’m curvy in the middle, so I need my tops to fall right at the hips.  Check out my selections below!

Pullover Sweater – $19.99 | Denim Shirt – $19.99 | Pencil Skirt – $20 | Clutch – $17.99

On the weekends, pair a bright colored pencil skirt (like the orange one below) with a denim jacket, a pullover sweater (which is perfect for layering and mixing in with other fall basic like chinos and cords) and flats for a casual chic look.

Blouse – $18 | Pencil Skirt – $20  | Skinny Belt  – $12.99 | Loafers – $32.99 | Tote – $32.99

For a trendy office look, the animal print skirt, a pretty orange blouse for a pop of color, a belt to accentuate your waist and wrap up your look with classic loafers.

Denim Jacket – $24.99 | Pencil Skirt – $20  | Shell Sweater – $19.99 | Heels – $23.99 | Necklace – $12.99 | Clutch – $24.99

For night, try pairing some basics with a pair of sexy animal print heels and a bold necklace .

Celebrity Redo: Jennifer Love Hewitt

I bet you’re wondering why I would redo Jennifer’s outfit.  Truth is, nothing’s really wrong with it: the skirt flatters her curvy figure and the shoes are definitely hot (although a bit overwhelming for the outfit). It’s just so-so and a bit boring.  I just think the girl needs some character!  SO, I decided to keep her in a pencil skirt but add a funky pair of peep toe wedges and a plaid shirt to give the outfit a modern/vintage vibe.  The peep toe wedges are a little pricey, but you’ll get year-round use.  Hope you like it and don’t forget to check out the widget below for more options!

Let’s make this very clear: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Jessica Biel’s outfit (other than the out of place denim bag).  But I couldn’t overcome the desire to freshen up her look to create a more airy, summertime look.  Hope you like it!

Celebrity Redo: Kate Bosworth

I’m sure Kate Bosworth could wear a paper bag and still look gorgeous, but this particular outfit (although cute and quirky) seemed to beg for a little “oomph!”  First step: I decided to stay within the same color family, but switch it up by adding a white crew neck sweater over a black button down ( I LOVE THAT COMBO!).  Next: The bulky bag wasn’t working for me, so I replaced it with a clutch.  Lastly,  I found a gorgeous bow back skirt, which really adds a lot of character to the outfit.  When it came down to the shoes and footless tights, I just went with it simply because I liked it (but the ensemble would look just as good without them).  Don’t forget, every piece in this outfit can be broken down and worn with just about anything in your closet: The skirt could be worn with a cropped blazer to work; the sweater with a pair of jeans for a casual luncheon, or the black button-down with a pair of black slacks for a chic evening get-together.

Fall Wardrobe Staples

Black Turtle Neck

It can be used as a foundation for just about any outfit whether it’s casual, dressy or even a professional look.

Black Pants
A well fitted pair of black pants can instantly dress up any outfit.

Dark Wash Jeans
Hands down the most versatile color of jeans.  They can be worn with a sexy top for evenings or with a jacket to the office.

A little Black Dress (aka the LBD)

Preferably a wrap to help accentuate your curves.  A must for any wardrobe!

Pencil Skirt
A classic staple item that personifies chic.  Wear it with your black turtle neck for an artsy look; a denim jacket with a pair of ballerina flats for lunch; or with sky high heels and a camisole for a date.

A Belted Trench Coat
The perfect all year round piece.

Ballerina Flats
Not too casual not too dressy.  These are shoes to wear when you want the comfy but polished look.

White Tailored Shirt
I dare you to find anything that you can’t wear it with.

Opaque Tights in at least two colors and one different texture.
Not only will they allow you to stay warm, but tights slenderize and are a great way to transition all your favorite dresses into Fall.

Peep Toe Heels
Throw these on with any of the above items and you will immediately feel sexy.

Diamond Studs
Whether they’re real or not they will give off the illusion of class with ANY outfit.
