Celeb Style: Sex & The City Inspired Horseshoe Necklace

My main weakness when it comes to fashion has always been jewelry. For the most part I buy tons of bangles and sterling silver rings but  there’s not any particular type of jewelry that I look for when I shop  – I just buy!   To say I have a rather large collection of jewelry is a understatement and my jewelry stands display years of collecting.  While I don’t favor a particular style when accessorizing I do have a tendency to like pieces that have meaning. From a 30’s vintage Bakelite piece that I inherited from my mother in law or spiritual pieces that stem from different religions, to a simple strand of  beads my mood dictates the choice. Often you will find me sporting a celeb inspired piece such as my name necklace like Carrie’s from Sex & The City.   Ironically it wasn’t until I was sent these horseshoe necklaces that I realized that most of my celeb inspired pieces are inspired by the Carrie Bradshaw character that I just adore.

I remember when the second Sex & The City movie came out I searched high and low for celebrity engagement ringslooking for a black diamond just like the one Big gave Carrie.  Although I found a good looking replica let’s just say that the quality wasn’t all that great and it’s not going to make it onto one of my jewelry displays.  These horseshoe necklaces on the other hand are definitely going on display!  I love love love  them!  The palm tree was added after I saw the picture of Alexa Chung sporting a frog and a palm tree on the red carpet and I loved the idea of the lucky horse shoe paired with the palm tree (which represents light ).  The little extra bit of bling just makes them look that much prettier and creates a perfect blend of quirky, trendy and glam.

I love it when quality and affordability are joined together especially with jewelry and emitations (I could not have possibly come up with a better name) does just that and more.  For more info on the necklaces featured visit www.emitaions.com

Booties All Year Round

Womens ankle boots have been around forever but last summer I noticed them making a stronger statement when worn with cut off shorts and summer dresses.  Thankfully the trend stuck around cause I personally love the laid back touch it gives and when you’re from Florida like me it’s a great excuse to keep them out all year round!  There’s a ton of designer boots for women to choose from and if you choose to invest in them like I do, you can easily get them for less at stores like Payless, Target and many more budget friendly stores.  Below are some are of favorite pairs from Jildor Shoes and what to wear them with for winter, fall or summer.

Add a little attitude to your cut off shorts this summer with these prune studded booties.  Tip: don’t let the color and suede fool you – these boots can easily be worn with bright spring colors or summer florals.

Collar Satin Shirt – $28 at Sheinside.com | Denim Shorts – $32 at HM.com | Belted Satchel – $28 at Yesstyle.com | Sunglasses – $8 at HM.com | Prune Suede Booties – $295 at Jildorshoes.com

These black ankle boots are the perfect pair to invest in.  I paired them with burgundy skinny jeans and a sweater but they literally go with everything and they won’t go out of style.

Grey Pullover – $14 at Target.com | Tory Burch Skinny Jeans – $136 at Toryburch.com | Kardashian Kollection Fringed Hobo – $65 at Sears.com | Miami Chic Necklace – $29 at Modeets.com | Suede Ankle Boots – $295 at Jildorshoes.com

Another classic bootie that won’t go out of style and can be worn all year round.  Tip: tights and leggings make these boots even easier to wear, especially when transitioning pieces.

Lace In The Sun Dress – $53 at Modcloth.com | Quiksilver Sweetest Thing Cardigan – $61 at Zalando.com | Envelope Clutch – $28 at Americanapparel.net | Brina Leather Ankle Boot – $520 at Jildorshoes.com

This cozy fleece cardigan from Yesstyle is exactly why I miss colder weather.  Love the contrast lapel – it gives the cozy cardigan an edgy feel that’s not too trendy making it a great piece to pull out year after year.  Tips: Pair it with colored denim; for a slendering look go monochromatic in black or even beige or wear it to work instead of a blazer.

Last week I spent some time in my hometown of New York visiting family and enjoying the cool fall weather in cozy sweaters, warm gloves and tons of layers!  From a fashion standpoint the balmy temperature of Florida (where I live full time) definitely limits the options.  Not only do I love to layer, but the holiday’s seem more like a holiday when its cold outside!  Hoping I can make it back to New York soon to see some snow and bundle up!

Channel Your Inner Manhattan Leading Lady with These Fall 2012 Must-Haves

Movies that combine RomCom and fashion speak to the modern woman. Sex and the City remains a style guide for women who insist on a unique, polished look.

Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte. How does their fashion influence us? It may have been years since we obsessively recorded every episode. However, their unique style continues to motivate our fashion choices today.

By investing in a few key pieces each season you can attain the flawless look they created. No matter what your personal taste, take cues from these iconic career women.

To replicate the look of Hollywood’s most recent leading ladies, check out the fashion archives of Celebrity Copycat styles.

If you are like us though, and still longing for an evening with Carrie and the girls, check out the imprint their styles still have on fashion today.

Carrie: The Trendy Writer
If Carrie is your ideal style maven then over-the-top accessories are for you. Carrie’s clever style, like many modern women, changes over time depending on where her career takes her.

She often epitomized the peak of runway fashion. However, she was also equally suited in a classic pencil skirt as her career took her from coffee shop column-writing to fashion contributor for Vogue.

Punch up a perfect pencil skirt like this one with a brightly colored blouse, stylish statement necklace and patterned pumps.

Adding a motorcycle jacket adds the edge factor and takes the look from day to evening.

Charlotte: The Polished Art Curator
Charlotte’s classic style was the perfect picture of the modern woman, demure and sleek. Fall 2012 is all about pops of color and mixing textures. But make no mistake, a trusted little black dress is always a key fashion asset.

Look for one with interesting details to put a modern spin on a classic style. This little number from New York & Company tops our list of wear-to-work dresses. The faux leather panel adds interest while the vertical lines provide a powerful slimming effect.

Pair with a bright belt and matching cardigan for a seamless look that can transition from day to evening.

Miranda: The Empowered AttorneyAre you a no-nonsense power dresser like Miranda? Buttoned-up career style does not have to translate to tired pantsuits day after day.

Miranda showed us how to make the most of a clean, professional approach with her timeless take on the modern woman’s suit. Try balancing out perfectly cut, wide leg pants with a bright, jewel-toned blazer such as the green one seen here.

Add a coordinating scarf and forgo the briefcase for a textured bag like this houndstooth laptop bag to magnify your style.

Samantha: The Stunning Publicist
Samantha turned heads wherever she went, all while managing to keep her scorching style.

Take a fashion lesson from this Sex & the City siren and pair fall’s must-have modern faux leather pants with a functional blazer, bold statement necklace and heels with attitude – we love the snakeskin print accent on these pumps!

Lose the blazer after work and go effortlessly from the office to drinks with the girls.

Whether you are off to the coffee shop or the art gallery, the courthouse or the board room, the modern woman needs an individual style that can go all day (and night).

Add your own clever spin on these modern, quality pieces. By doing so, you can create a fall wardrobe worthy of the big screen.

Taking It Back With SnapHats

November 1, 2012 by
Filed under Boys on the Side

As a kid growing up in Brooklyn back in the 90’s, snapback hats were the ultimate urban fashion statement and closely associated with the style and music of hip hop legends like Dr. Dre and Tupac to name a few. The trend of course spread wide from sport legends like Michael Jordan to celebrities such as Will Smith when he was “moving with his auntie and uncle in Bel-air!”   Flash forward to today and my boys are rocking vintage snapbacks and listening to today’s trendsetters like  Kanye West, Mac Miller, Jay-Z and even underground YouTube sensations like D-Pryde and George Watsky.

Yeah, some things in life come full circle and never go out of style! Oh, and if you are wondering the origin of the name snapback, here’s the quick version: it’s a hat with an adjustable strap on the back that snaps together…snapbacks!

The popularity is continuing to grow an many snapbacks today aren’t exclusive to sport teams –  they also use designer brand names like Diamond, Krew and Crook League.  From a fashion standpoint the snapback definitely adds a street vibe to your look whether jeans and a tee shirt or a sports jersey with shorts.  Best of all there are a ton of options and styles to choose from online.  Check out the huge selection at SnapHats.com .
