Stylish Spring Picks For The Family

When it comes to online shopping (and I do most of my shopping online) I look for stores that have variety.  Especially at the begining of a new season where I like to buy  basic stylish pieces  that I can mix into my wardrobe.  Being a busy working mom I also look for stores that have something for the whole family to save time and money on shipping.  Stores like psyche.co.uk make it a cinch to do just that. You can easily shop by category, price, size or even trends!   With over 150 designer brands like Michael Kors, Barbour and Marc Jacobs to name just a few, there’s something for everyone regardless of style, size or budget.  And customers ordering outside the European Union get a 20% discount on their order, which is a biggie for me.  Established in 1982, Psyche has received recognition on an international stage, attracting the attention of fashion industry heavyweights in both the UK and  in Tokyo, Singapore and New York, including many parts of Europe.  Psyche aims to please the customer and make online shopping a pleasure so I can only imagine that in store shopping is equally enjoyable.  Check out some of my favorite spring picks below for the entire family.

I was immediately impressed by their vast selection: The tops range from dressy blouses with chic prints that are easy to wear for between weather like spring  (see below),  to trendy tees and preppy polos (and their jeans selection was just as impressive). Their shoe selection was equally diverse carrying shoes from affordable lines like Chinese Laundry to Ted Baker (I absolutely love the Ted Baker selection).   In this particular outfit I chose a light star print blouse, a faux fur jacket that I LOVE and gray jeans to create an effortless look that you can wear day or night.

Paul Smith Star Print Shirt – $62.39 | J Brand Skinny Jeans – $119.14  | Faux Fur Cropped Jacket – $59 | Paul Smith Cross Body Bag – $559 | Ted Baker Bow Heels – $124.80

The men selection was equally on par and just as fashionable.  I find that some online stores tend to stick to men’s basics and that’s not the case with Psyche.  Their men’s knitwear  and dressier shoes definitely stood out.  This outfit was totally inspired by my two teenagers.  They wear a pair of khaki’s, a button down and a light pullover nearly everyday.  I chose a white sweater because it gives the basic khaki’s a crisp clean feel and the polka dots provide a little flair.  Love it!

Hugo Boss Polka Dot Shirt – $143.71 | Armani Crew Neck Sweater – $137.41 | Ralph Lauren Khaki’s – $83.71 | J Shoes Brogues – $143.71 | Navy Nixon – $545

With spring comes rain and what makes rainy days a little more fun?  An adorable pair of kids Hunter boots!

An all in one online shop that will surely fit you or your families stylish spring needs.  For more info on the pieces featured in this post visit www.psyche.com

Now & Later

Cooler weather is right around the corner and by adding a few key pieces to your summer shorts now, you can keep them out later on. The idea is to pick pieces that you’ll get tons of use and are stylish enough to mix and match later on with jeans, cordoroys or slacks.  Pair them with a pair of boots, oxfords or sneaks and you’re good to go!  Check out some examples below

Now: If you prefer simple functional basics try a light weight jacket like the ones by Penfield over at Size? with just about any of your summer favorites. Later: Add a stylish scarf, a hoodie and a button down… guaranteed style and it’s layering heaven!

Now: For cooler nights try a preppy sweater (it’s a classic and stylish piece for any season), shorts and slip ons.   Later: Pull out your cordoroys and favorite summer slip ons to wear with your sweater for a effortless laid back look.

Now: Pair your shorts with your favorite tee and a button a down.  Later: Add a a vest for some stylish layering and ditch the shorts for your favorite jeans

SO excited for Banana Republic’s new Mad Men line!  I’m a huge fan of the show and a even bigger fan of the 60’s style revolution.  I loved the clean American lines for the men’s wear and the reserved yet sexy modern touch of the women’s clothes.  Designed by Banana Republic creative director Simon Kneen in colllaboration with ‘Mad Men’ Emmy Award-winning costume designer Janie Bryant, the collection will be carried in Banana Republic’s North American stores and online at BananaRepublic.com starting Thursday, August 11.

Banana Republic Facebook Fans will have exclusive to shop collection first, before it hits stores and online.  An early access Facebook boutique goes live on the Banana Republic Facebook Fan page on Wednesday, August 10th, allowing fans to beat the crowds and shop the collection first.

2011 Major Fashion Trends for Men

March 13, 2011 by
Filed under Boys on the Side

Gone are the days when fashion trends were simply meant for women. Guys have now become equally conscious about what they wear and how they accessorize themselves. Men are now equally interested in fashion weeks held at the four major destinations Milan, Paris, London and New York.

Whether you are a style guru or an average guy, fashion trends for spring 2011 will not disappoint you.

Globe Totter: The hottest trend of spring 2011 reflects the Captain Cook look. Do you remember the captain sailing on Pacific Ocean? The fashion idea for 2011 is similar – West meets East. The fashion week held in New York played with the idea – clothing as storytelling. Clothing that gives a feel of adventure are going to be a big hit this year.

Duckie Brown: The Duckie Brown collection displayed by Daniel Silver at New York 2011 Spring Fashion Week clearly conveyed the message that the effort was to make every single piece unique. This collection perfectly reflected the West meets East look. If you are in search of a similar style, opt for garments that exhibit an eccentric mix of patterns and colors.

Gilded Age: The clipper ships and the Pan American World Airways uniforms are the inspiration for this style. You can find shirts designed with fabrics that look aged by the sun. Drawstrings at your waist, epaulettes and multi-pocket jackets are going to bring the vintage look.

Billy Reid: The Billy Reid collection was another major success at New York Fashion week spring 2011. The designer was inspired by his birthplace Louisiana and his creations captured the essence of the Louisiana style. His collections displayed madras jackets with hand made patchwork, heirloom buckled belts, the kind of dresses that would evoke a sense of tradition. Wearing a Billy Reid garment can give you the vintage look you are crazy about.

If you want to keep pace with the spring fashion trend 2011 look for some of these things including epaulettes, leather travel bag, vintage prints, sun aged fabrics, lived-in leather jackets, jackets with multiple pockets, handcrafted detailing, awning stripes and many more.

The Stylist Manifesto: Frugal Fashionable Fellas

Even though the economy currently sucks, one must still expand his or her wardrobe from time to time. This is where shopping on a strict budget comes in. For this post in going to craft two outfits for under $200. Just for the frugal, fashionable fella.

Outfit 1:

We’ll start off with a more dressed-up version of the casual ensemble. This single button blazer is a great start, especially at only $34.20 at yesstyle.com.

This is a refreshing change from the traditional button-up as it’s not only a textured example, but also a utility version with shoulder detailing. The gray palette is wonderfully visited in modern form. Note the complementary neckwear that follows $16.00 at topman.com.

The diagonal pattern nicely reflects that romantic evening you’ve got planned for your baby,  and @ $6, how can you pass it up? Topman.com baby!

There’s just something wintery about silver! This tie in brushed silver stands out beautifully against the gray utility shirt and the reflection from the silver fleck will definitely catch your mamita’s fancy. Enjoy for only $6 at topman.com.

The Stylist’s Manifesto: Late Registration.

With the fall semester in session, many of us have absolutely no desire to leave behind the fabulous summer we’ve been having thusfar. That being said, there’s no reason whatsoever for your appearance to reflect this disdain for the return to class. Pajamas and flip-flops weren’t appropriate last semester and they’re certainly not this time around. Let’s go through a few back to school ensembles for us as well as the fairer sex and hopefully annihilate the notion that looking like one just woke up and dragged themselves to school is ever acceptable. Since this is another FashionGrail/Stylistmanifesto dual location post, we’re gonna hit exclusively our spots (Yesstyle.com and Karmaloop.com).

Us:

Step onto campus in style! The vintage striped button-down flows beautifully into the chinos below. The brown tone seamlessly goes from the stripe in the shirt to the pant. And since we’re still in the last bits of the warmer temperatures, rock the nautical footwear while you still can. Top it off with bold-rimmed frames and a slightly busier tie (whose diagonal stripe incidentally cuts the vertical ones of the button-down).

Shirt – $50 @ yesstyle.com

Similar Tie – $15 @ yesstyle.com

Pants – $28 @ yesstyle.com

Boat shoes – $50 @ karmaloop.com

Them:

When you’re in class ma’, why not be dressed to immediately meet your baby for a bite to eat? There’s no need to rock the pajamas like those girls in the online college commercials. This particular ensemble is very simple yet devastatingly chic. The knit top keeps you warm in the a/c (because we know the classroom can be a bit chilly), while the higher length pencil skirt will keep you from overheating on the way back to the car (once you hit the outdoors again, it may be quite a bit warmer and sweating is gross). Not to mention, the higher length is a nice way to still show off those fabulous legs before they have to be put away for the winter 🙁 Footwear is totally up to you but I’d suggest a heel or pump.

Knit top and High-waist pencil skirt – $102 @ yesstyle.com

Beautiful pumps in a smooth and sexy copper – $120 @ karmaloop.com

This time around, I chose to keep it mad simple for both us and you ladies. We’ve set the bar for the fall season, now it’s up to each of us to maintain this standard and exceed it! Just because we’re hitting the books, we shouldn’t have to look like we just came off a 12 hour cramming session.
