A little black dress is a closet staple but a little black dress that’s also a skirt and minimizes my waist and midriff is just genius! When I first got the Sassybax Convert-A-Skirt I immediately worried that it was going to be one of those suffocating fabrics – but it’s not. Sure it’s snug, but just snug enough to slim all the right spots. The more you play around with it the better it looks and what totally had me hooked was how when I realized that it held up the “little girls” and we all know that’s not an easy task. I wouldn’t say I would be able to go braless in it BUT any strapless bra would do (unlike other strapless dresses without support where I have to search high and low for maximum support). I’m obsessed with this dress! The fabric is a matte black making it super easy to dress up or down. It stays put which is important for me because I plan on wearing it on the dance floor and it’s machine washable. I could go son and on! It’s the perfect dress to pack on any vacation, for a night out on the town or under a blazer for a sexy office look. For more info on Sassybax’s Convert A Skirt visit

~ The Formula: Denim Jacket ~
Still one of my favorite dresses.
Whenever I want to look pulled together but not too dressy I throw on a denim jacket. I’ve had this dress from Ross for years and I’ve worn it solo during the summer, with sweaters and tights when it’s cold but my favorite is with denim. I was originally going to wear my deeper blue Levi’s jacket (seen here) but I thought the distressed one from American Eagle went way better with the boho vibe. Tip: If you’re lucky enough to get casual Friday’s at work, a denim jacket is an easy replacement for a suit or blazer and you can wear it with any skirt or pants.

I was going to wait until 20 weeks but after a couple of kids there’s no hiding it for that long. Looking forward to styling this baby bump! 🙂
Like most people I have a keen appreciation for designer luxe items whether it’s amazing clothing in my favorite magazines, stunning photos in personal style blogs or the trendy moms at the local mall. But more than anything I try to find inspiration from the finer things in life. I love scouring flea markets, Goodwill stores, clearance racks – anywhere that will allow me to get the luxe for less and I’m all over it! For the most part it’s focused around my love of fashion but it really applies to anything or anyone I may be shopping for in my life. The thrill of finding something for way less than it was originally priced is simply unmatched. But finding pieces for less can easily open us up to impulse shopping so over the years I’ve come up with a few rules of shopping that I swear by:
Don’t be afraid of the junior department. These are the stores and departments that WILL carry those trendy items seen all over magazines for way less, leaving you more money for those important investment pieces.
Find out what days they do mark downs and get there early. I take about five days out of the month (sometimes even more lol) to hit up the stores for new items and shop the mark downs. Some stores will even honor the sale if you happen to buy within a few days of the mark down.
Consider swapping with friends and family. What’s old to you maybe something your friend or cousin might have been dying to wear and vice versa.
Consider some easy DIY projects. Lots and lots of designer pieces are detail focused and can easily be recreated.
Know when to invest. I know this one may be a bit counterintuitive but I do know and appreciate that there will be items that need to be investment pieces. The criteria for me is that investment pieces have to fluidly go with just about everything in my closet and need to be easily dressed up or down. So invest in a good bag and classic must-have items like a leather jacket, trench or a good pair of boots or heels. These items will be worn year after year and never go out of style so they’re worth saving up for.
Below are some of my favorite outfits that I bought following these rules.
1. This purple dress was only $5 and I’ve been able to wear it so many different ways. 2. This outfit is a perfect example of mixing some high low pieces. The DVF heels go with a ton of different outfits and I knew I could wear them year after year. The beige wrap dress is a no brainer and only cost me $25 and I’ve had this denim jacket for years and wear it ALL the time. Same goes with the clutch. 3. I built this outfit around my favorite $6 chambray top and the entire look was under $50 including the shoes.
Hope you found these shopping tips useful 🙂

When summer rolls around down here in Florida it comes with inhuman heat and humidity, which only wreaks havoc on my hair (even after an hour in front of a hairdryer I still end up with frizzy hair)! So lately I’ve been air drying to camouflage the frizz and although I am not 100 percent sold on it, it’s easy to do. I use the hanna thermal protectant oil and Sally Hershberger Shagg Spray that I found for only $2.99 at Ross to get a piece-y look and it works great. Along with the big hair that I to call “beachy waves” I like to keep my outfits easy and comfy as well. I tend to keep my focus on tops because bottoms always consist of cut off shorts, a cotton mini or rolled up jeans. Every year I get on a new kick: last year I was all about asymmetrical tanks and this year it’s graphic tees. I got this one from Shopbop and although a little bit more than I usually pay for tee, it’s totally worth it! It’s got a roomy fit which is perfect for summer; the length makes it look like a perfectly worn-in mens tee and my favorite part is the length of the sleeves – its just long enought to be able to give it a nice roll if I’m in the mood too.

I’m not a sun lover and during the colder weather I normally use L’Oreal’s Sublime Bronze self tanning mist for a hint of color, but I try to get a real tan a few times a year and last week I managed to sneak away to the beach for the day. I’m not as tanned as I’d like to be but it’s definitely an improvement and it looks great with my little white dress, orange blazer and new tan sandals. 🙂

Love this Kardahian Kollection dress from Sears! It was originally $54.99 but it was 30% off so I got it for only $34.99. I was planning on wearing it without the cardigan and with wedges but I was freezing so I wore it with my cardigan and booties. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be wearing this dress a lot! The chain print gives it a expensive look but the fit keeps it flirty and fun. Next time I’m going to try it with leggings and a denim jacket. 🙂

I’ve had this white lace shift dress for some time and I would have worn it sooner but it didn’t fit. Yep this baby has been sitting in my closet for 3 months and 10 pounds. I kept trying it on every couple of weeks and I was SO happy last week when it actually fit! I’m still a few pounds of from my goal weight but I’m happy how far I’ve come.
Normally I would be terrified to wear a white dress but being that it’s a shift dress it’s a lot more forgiving. For accessories I kept it simple because I wanted to let the green bag do all the work and for shoes I was initially going to pair the dress with pointy toe pumps but I thought they were way too expected and a little dressier than I wanted to look so I decided to wear these gorgeous flats by London Sole that gave it the perfect balance of dressy and dainty but still casual.
I was so thrilled when I got the

My main weakness when it comes to fashion has always been jewelry. For the most part I buy tons of bangles and sterling silver rings but there’s not any particular type of jewelry that I look for when I shop – I just buy! To say I have a rather large collection of jewelry is a understatement and my jewelry stands display years of collecting. While I don’t favor a particular style when accessorizing I do have a tendency to like pieces that have meaning. From a 30’s vintage Bakelite piece that I inherited from my mother in law or spiritual pieces that stem from different religions, to a simple strand of beads my mood dictates the choice. Often you will find me sporting a celeb inspired piece such as my name necklace like Carrie’s from Sex & The City. Ironically it wasn’t until I was sent these horseshoe necklaces that I realized that most of my celeb inspired pieces are inspired by the Carrie Bradshaw character that I just adore.
I remember when the second Sex & The City movie came out I searched high and low for celebrity engagement ringslooking for a black diamond just like the one Big gave Carrie. Although I found a good looking replica let’s just say that the quality wasn’t all that great and it’s not going to make it onto one of my jewelry displays. These horseshoe necklaces on the other hand are definitely going on display! I love love love them! The palm tree was added after I saw the picture of Alexa Chung sporting a frog and a palm tree on the red carpet and I loved the idea of the lucky horse shoe paired with the palm tree (which represents light ). The little extra bit of bling just makes them look that much prettier and creates a perfect blend of quirky, trendy and glam.
I love it when quality and affordability are joined together especially with jewelry and emitations (I could not have possibly come up with a better name) does just that and more. For more info on the necklaces featured visit
