Sassybax Convert-A-Skirt For Day & Night

A little black dress is a closet staple but a little black dress that’s also a skirt and minimizes my waist and midriff is just genius!  When I first got the Sassybax Convert-A-Skirt I immediately worried that it was going to be one of those suffocating fabrics – but it’s not.  Sure it’s snug, but just snug enough to slim all the right spots.  The more you play around with it the better it looks and what totally had me hooked was how when I realized that it held up the “little girls” and we all know that’s not an easy task.  I wouldn’t say I would be able to go braless in it BUT any strapless bra would do (unlike other strapless dresses without support where I have to search high and low for maximum support).   I’m obsessed with this dress!  The fabric is a matte black making it super easy to dress up or down.  It stays put which is important for me because I plan on wearing it on the dance floor and it’s machine washable.  I could go son and on!  It’s the perfect dress to pack on any vacation, for a night out on the town or under a blazer for a sexy office look.   For more info on Sassybax’s Convert A Skirt visit www.sassybax.com

Blazer & Booties

Due in large part to having my new son Joseph, my fashion posts have decreased in quantity – until now.  These boots have me all sorts of inspired!  In my last #ootd I showed you guys how I styled my first pick of boots from DSW.  This time I’m showing off my more casual but equally fabulous and trendy western short booties. I’ve struggled in the past finding a pair of booties like these for a while because they never fit quite right; but these fit like a pair of boots I’ve worn for years.  Best of all they even have that worn-in, vintage look making them perfect for jeans, dresses and even slacks.  They look like all those expensive booties that you see on celebs but for way less (click here to see some of my favorite celeb looks).  I picked the exact opposite style of boots this time for two reasons: One, to highlight the selection of styles that DSW has, and also to fit my extremely eclectic style.

I need to be comfortable.  I have five kids and I’m always on the run, so I tend to grab a blazer and go.  It’s the easiest way to make any outfit instantly polished.  For this look I wanted something that I would wear out to a casual lunch with the family so I grabbed my favorite blazer (you can see it also here and here), black jeggings, and a striped sweater. The boots really make this outfit pop!  I love that the entire look is sort of sleek and the boots give it an effortless almost unfinished look.  To me, that’s what style is all about – combining all the things you love and making them work.  Thanks to DSW for sending me these boots and stay tuned…I have lots of plans for this pair of boots.

Quilted Black Booties & Tights

Quilted Black Booties & Tights

I have hundreds of pair of shoes!  I’m such a shoe freak that if I happen to find shoes that I absolutely love, I buy multiple pairs.  My particular weakness has always been boots – whether high heeled boots, riding boots, or even cowboy boots – because they make any outfit ooze the perfect rough and tumble vibe.  To say that I was super excited to not only work with DSW again (you can see my last post here) but also be sent two pair of boots of my choice would be an understatement!

Picking a pair of boots that I liked was easy; narrowing it down to two was a little tough because DSW has an enormous selection of styles.  I wanted a little bit of a challenge, so I chose two completely different looks.  For my first pick, I went with a pair of high heel boots.  I loved the fact that they had the perfect combo of sexy with its sky-high heels but also edgy with a buckle, quilt and rubber soles.  The details are definitely on point!  When I first put them on I was a little skeptical about the heel being SO high.  I’m pretty comfortable in heels but sometimes they can be slippery and hard to walk in – that was not the case with these boots.  The rubber soles kept them solid and the platform made them comfy and easy to walk in.

I decided to pair the booties with a little black dress, tights to add warmth and texture and a favorite oversized cardigan for a cozy touch.  This is something I would wear on a chilly night out to dinner with the girls or even on a date night. It’s super comfy, stylish and sexy.  Stay tuned to see my next pair of boots and how I styled them!

White Blazer Worn 3 Ways

May 29, 2013 by

I bought this white blazer from Tobi on a whim and I always find a different outfit to wear it with.  This time I paired with my new pink skirt.   I spotted this little pink skater skirt for only $5 and knew I wanted to wear it with my white blazer and a cropped top I bought at Ross a few months ago.  I’ve been looking for a colored bottom to wear the crop top with for some time but because it’s a crop top I wanted something higher at the waist and this skirt is perfect!  Check the three different ways I’ve worn my white blazer below.

What I’m Wearing:

White Blazer – $39 from Tobi.com (also seen here & here)

Cropped Top – $7.99 from Ross

Pink Skater Skirt $5 from Papaya

Caged Heels – $30 from a local boutique in Tampa

White Hot Heels

I’ve always been a bit iffy about white shoes.  Everytime I see a pair I immediately think of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.  🙂  These white heels with a metallic cap toe are however a totally different story and now have me loving white heels.  The metallic (which I’m totally obsessed with for spring) gives the white heels a edgier feel that I love and at only $19.99 how could I resist!  Below is a quick denim on denim look I pulled together and some of my favorite white heels available online (I bought mine at a local Tampa boutique) and under $100.

What I’m Wearing:

White Cap Toe Heels – $19.99 at Local Boutique

Skinny Jeans – $34.99 at Charlotte Russe I LOVE the way their jeans fit!

Floral Chambray Top – $5 at T.J. Maxx (also seen here)

Michelle Valle convertible bag c/o meetmark.com (also seen here)

Vintage Style Ring c/o Fantasy Jewelry Box

Ankle Strap Heels – $94.99 at Heels.com

Laminated White Heels – $49.90 at Zara.com

Pointed High Heels – $75 at ASOS.com

My One of a Kind Shopping Style

The Diet Dr Pepper One Of A Kind Style Sweepstakes is on and to help celebrate the kickoff this time I decided to highlight my personal way of shopping.  My love for shopping is like an art form and the way I shop has really defined my one of a kind style. I shop clearance aisles first and when I spot something I like it has to meet a certain criteria – like the ability to be worn at least two different ways and be easily worn for day or night (I have a tendency to “build” outfits piece by piece).  Also, while the new arrivals that are placed right smack in the front of the store may be the easiest choice, it can also leave you looking like everyone else.  Sure, It can be challenging and at times frustrating but it’s what sets my outfits apart from others. Another habit of mine is to mix and match high-end pieces with affordable finds that will get me the most wear. For the most part when I see something on the rack I can envision what I’ll be wearing it with before I even walk out the door…and those are the pieces I wear to death and the pieces that make my style one of a kind.

Just last weekend I went shopping for some spring shoes and I knew I wanted booties.  At first I was looking for a black and brown pair, but then I saw this tan suede pair with a gold platform and they were only $20!  Right away I knew that they’d be perfect to dress up or down so I snagged them right away.  The first outfit I wore them with a pair of mint green skinny jeans, a simple white tee, a boyfriend blazer  and a polka dot scarf.  For my second outfit  I wore the booties with my go-to skirt and a chambray top.  I love the way it gives the black skirt a more laid back look without taking away the dressy part. This particular outfit was under $100 and I’ve worn each piece a ton of different ways.

Not bad for a pair of booties that cost only $20!  Check out some of my other day to night looks below.

Striped Dress for Day or Night

Polka Dot Skirt for Day or Night

Celeb Style: Sex & The City Inspired Horseshoe Necklace

February 28, 2013 by

My main weakness when it comes to fashion has always been jewelry. For the most part I buy tons of bangles and sterling silver rings but  there’s not any particular type of jewelry that I look for when I shop  – I just buy!   To say I have a rather large collection of jewelry is a understatement and my jewelry stands display years of collecting.  While I don’t favor a particular style when accessorizing I do have a tendency to like pieces that have meaning. From a 30’s vintage Bakelite piece that I inherited from my mother in law or spiritual pieces that stem from different religions, to a simple strand of  beads my mood dictates the choice. Often you will find me sporting a celeb inspired piece such as my name necklace like Carrie’s from Sex & The City.   Ironically it wasn’t until I was sent these horseshoe necklaces that I realized that most of my celeb inspired pieces are inspired by the Carrie Bradshaw character that I just adore.

I remember when the second Sex & The City movie came out I searched high and low for celebrity engagement ringslooking for a black diamond just like the one Big gave Carrie.  Although I found a good looking replica let’s just say that the quality wasn’t all that great and it’s not going to make it onto one of my jewelry displays.  These horseshoe necklaces on the other hand are definitely going on display!  I love love love  them!  The palm tree was added after I saw the picture of Alexa Chung sporting a frog and a palm tree on the red carpet and I loved the idea of the lucky horse shoe paired with the palm tree (which represents light ).  The little extra bit of bling just makes them look that much prettier and creates a perfect blend of quirky, trendy and glam.

I love it when quality and affordability are joined together especially with jewelry and emitations (I could not have possibly come up with a better name) does just that and more.  For more info on the necklaces featured visit www.emitaions.com

This weekend after I celebrated my sons 8th birthday I decided to take a few days off and do what I do best…SHOP! I took my time and hit a bunch of local Tampa boutiques that I love and found a ton of great stuff on sale.  Although I never made it to a mall, I did make my obligatory stops at Ross, Marshalls and of course T.J. Maxx.  My favorite purchases were the gray booties and chambray top seen below that I found for only $5 at T.J. Maxx.  I’ve been looking for this particular worn-out grayish/taupe colored booties for some time now, and I finally found them on sale for only $20!  The built in wedge gives me the height that I always want but still keeps me super comfy.  I can’t wait to wear them with my shorts and skirts this summer (actually this weekend because it’s going to be in the 80’s).  Click here for some outfit ideas.

I can’t believe he’s 8 years old!

The Formula: Peplum Tops

February 1, 2013 by

There’s something about a peplum top that’s so feminine, and as soon as you throw it on you instantly feel classy. I have a few peplum tops (you can see my lace one here) but the most flattering types are the ones that fall right at the hips and have 3/4 sleeve (but that goes for any sleeve).  This black one is like a basic tee and it’s a easy way to add a little flair to jeans or skirts.

What I’m Wearing:

Peplum Top – $14.99 from Kohl’s

Black Jeggings (also seen here) – $19.99 from Marshalls

Pointy Toe Pumps – $25.50 from Charlotte Russe
