I’ve always loved me a comfy sweatshirt but this season I’m loving the idea of a sweatshirt  dressed up.  I loved the way Beyonce, Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung rocked their sweatshirts by simply accessorizing and adding heels. Pair with a sexy pencil skirt, plaid slacks or your favorite jeans and add some fab jewelry and you’re good to go.

For a adorable look pair this ruffled  sweatshirt with legging and heels.

Fantasy Brands at Real-Person Prices

The hefty price tags touted by the couture creations and exquisite ensembles of high-end designers make them fiscal unachievable fantasies for even the most style-obsessed fashionista. There was a time when just one insanely covetable item from Marchesa or Philip Lim would mean forgoing food and rent for the foreseeable future. Then, like an answer to a posh prayer, came the brilliant idea known as the “diffusion line.” Most commonly this is when a top-tier designer pairs with a middle-market retailer to create an affordable, yet still visionary, capsule collection – thereby saving you from the fate of becoming a hopelessly chic homeless person. These fab collabs have been gaining popularity over the last few years, resulting in a treasure trove of quality garments for the discerning dresser on a budget. Read on to discover the cream of the current crop of these trendsetting teams, just be prepared to shop til you drop – with enough capital leftover to accessorize.

  1. White by Vera Wang at David’s Bridal. Nothing says “I’m going to live the rest of my life in happily wedded bliss” like floating down the aisle in a creation crafted by the queen of nuptials herself.  The amazing news is that now you can make that fantasy a reality by choosing one of the divine frocks from Ms. Wang’s diffusion line. This season’s collection was inspired by the, sigh, glamour of Old Hollywood.  Modestly priced between $728 and $1,348, it is impossible to not fall head over heels for one of these enchanting, elegant, affairs. Plus, she designs for the wedding party as well. Need we say more?

2. 3.1 Philip Lim for Target. The buzz about this cult designer’s collection for Target has grown into a collective roar with its recent release – and it’s well deserved. The bags alone are worth the hype. Full of sophisticated floral prints, skinny trousers and sparkly, fête-ready frocks, the line has caused a veritable stampede at some Target locations. With sleek looks to take you from a.m. to after-party, this is one dream team-up not to miss.

3. RACHEL by Rachel Roy for Macy’s. This elegant designer brings the class-with-an-edge attitude that makes her namesake line so covetable to her diffusion line. Her most recent creations include military-inspired pea coats, printed suits and feminine animal print dresses paired with motorcycle jackets. It’s a one-stop shop for wardrobe basics and of-the-moment trend pieces.

  1. Catherine Malandrino for Kohl’s. Malandrino is the most recent elite designer to create a limited-edition collection for Kohl’s DesigNation, and her accessible-yet-chic looks are the best yet. The romantic, Paris-inspired line is full of graphic, black and white pairings and intricately beaded shift-dresses.  Be sure to stock up on the perfectly styled lace-print tops and frocks – ideal for date night or a swanky holiday soiree.

  1. Truly by Zac Posen for David’s Bridal. Although the line isn’t set to debut until 2014, it will be worth the wait – if Posen’s gowns are anything like his red carpet creations, they will be magical. The illustrious designer’s foray into affordable wedding-wear is bound to be both a commercial and critical success. Boldly sophisticated, sexy and distinctively glamorous, Posen’s design aesthetic lends itself perfectly to bridal gowns. The creations promise to be couture quality at a price that won’t break your budget.

Must Have Pieces For Layering

September 28, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

What would fall be without layering?  To help get the most out of fashions most creative and coziest season, you need to have the right pieces.  That means items that can easily mix and match or be easily worn from day to night.  To help kick off autumn I’ve picked some key must-have pieces for layering and how to wear them.

A little fur  on a vest will instantly make any outfit a little glam, cozy and chic.  Pair with jeans and a striped top for a easy casual look or a little black dress and tights for a quirky sexy look.

Faux Fur Trim Vest

A classic striped top with a touch of leather is a no brainer!  Layer it under cardigans, button downs and finish off the look with a scarf.

Striped Top

Add some denim to any outfit for a effortless feel.  Wear it under the vest with fur and the striped top for layering perfection!

Denim Top

A long cardigan will make layering dressier pieces a cinch!  Try it with a pencil skirt or even a maxi dress.

Long Cardigan

Necklaces and scarfs make any layering look instantly more stylish.  Try a long necklace and scarf for a flowy affect.

Long Tassle Necklace

A little black dress is the perfect canvas for all your layering needs.  Pick one that fits like a glove, add some tights or leggings and start adding layers.  You can start by adding a very thin turtle neck or  button down underneath.

Long Sleeve Black Dress

Revlon’s Color Closet: Fall’s Crimson Seduction

September 23, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

Fall is all about chilly temps, layering and boots!  And while it’s known for warm rich colors, there’s no better time to accentuate your look with  bright colors…how about starting with your nails!  The color red has always been a symbol of power and confidence.  It’s a sultry  classic color that never goes out of style.  But with tons of different shades as options it can be tricky to pick the right shade.  I was sent Revlon’s nail color Seduce and it’s gorgeous!  It’s a true red that’s easy to mix and match with other colors if you desire but I would let it stand out on its own.  The bold alluring color is sexy, fun and exactly what any fall color palette will need.

I like the idea of wearing it for day or night with matching toes of course.   For day a red polish will pop against basic pieces like a blazer layered with your favorite fall sweater.  Think mustards and blue with a  tweed blazer and amazing red mani…it’s a instant mood booster while adding that pop of color for fall!

For night it’s a no brainer!  When I want to add a little more sass to my look red always does the trick when wearing my favorite combo: a little black dress, a leather jacket and high heeled booties.  This fall let loose, have fun and get yourself a red mani!

Revlon believes there is more than one way for women to be seen. Revlon’s heritage as a color authority and its suite of innovative products inspires women around the world to express themselves through beauty each and every day.

Last week I spent some time in my hometown of New York visiting family and enjoying the cool fall weather in cozy sweaters, warm gloves and tons of layers!  From a fashion standpoint the balmy temperature of Florida (where I live full time) definitely limits the options.  Not only do I love to layer, but the holiday’s seem more like a holiday when its cold outside!  Hoping I can make it back to New York soon to see some snow and bundle up!
