Eco-Chic Summer Fashion

The Neon Buddha eco-chic fashion collection is perfect for all of summer’s activities – from work to weekend to vacation! These pieces are super bright and colorful and add that extra bit of personality to any wardrobe. Each piece is made of super soft, pre-shrunk material and available in a color palette of 16 bright colors including Perky Pink, Retro Turquoise, Funky Lime and Village Sage.

Now the eco-chic part! Each piece in this collection is handcrafted of 100% super soft, pre-shrunk cotton by 500 women in Thailand, thereby affording them opportunities to better their way of life while doing what they love. In addition, the company’s new 100,000 sq ft Green dye house uses one-tenth of the water and one-quarter of the energy used in traditional cotton dyeing. Also, by incorporating the latest technology into its water treatment facility, the facility emits no pollution from the plant and recycles discharged water by transferring it to neighboring rice fields. The company also donates one percent of global sales in order to effect the mobilization of communities to make the world a better place in which to live and support the health and well-being of thousands through the Mae Tao Clinic and funding disadvantaged women to start their own business through the Mirror Foundation.

Available at major North American retailers including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Anthropologie as well as hundreds of boutiques. www.NeonBuddha.net

Grab your pens, markers, tablet PC, iPad or whatever it is you’d use to sketch the dress of your dreams. Shumaq and POSHGLAM have partnered to give one of our insanely talented readers the chance to have their designs made a part of the Shumaq Fall 2011 Collection. Shumaq is the eco-friendly and socially responsible brainchild of two Peruvian sisters, Vanessa and Jacqueline Barrentes. The name from the label is taken directly from the Peruvian language Quechua’s word for beautiful, so we’ll expect nothing less than that from your sketches. The label is all about strikingly beautiful handcrafted pieces made by Peruvian female artisans. Vanessa and Jacqueline have molded this contemporary line into an ode to their origins in their use of homegrown goods, textiles, and embellishments. Shumaq takes the promise of being eco-friendly and socially responsible and more than fulfills it with a line that gives the Peruvian women that make the clothing a chance to educate themselves and become self-sufficient.

Starting today, you all have until Jan. 28th 2011 to come up with a design based on the inspiration board that the ladies over at Shumaq have so graciously provided (see above, click to enlarge). Not only will the winner of this inspired contest receive the honor of having their dress made in the Shumaq Fall 2011 Collectionthey’ll also get their very own design shipped to them once it’s made. To enter email an image of your design and inspiration to Shumaq@POSHGLAM.com.

At English Retreads, they turn recycling into a bold fashion statement with their unique handbags and accessories. Designed specifically for conscientious consumers and savvy fashionistas, each one-of-a-kind English Retreads product is handcrafted from reclaimed truck inner tubes—right in Boulder, Colorado.

One hundred percent vegan, their materials are an ecologically sound alternative to animal products. And even though their bags are designed to keep on truckin’ forever, it’s always good to buy a spare. Following in the tire tracks of Henry Ford’s original Model T, English Retreads are available in any color you want—as long as it’s black!  I personally own the Beetle Small (featured below) and absolutely love it!  It really is more than just a bag it’s a unique piece of artwork you’ve got to see in person to truly appreciate it.  What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with a brand new bag!

3. Beetle Lined – The large Beetle reigns supreme as the high-fashion queen in the English Retreads fleet. It is a perfect blend of pep and style, lined with your choice of favorite colors that really pop. We know that organization is key which is why the Beetle features a zipper closure, two exterior side pockets, three interior pockets (one with a zipper closure and two with elasticized edges to keep small items snug) and an interior utility ring. We’ve added classy metal feet for added ride stability. The Small Beetle has style and fashion flair in a more compact package, featuring a single interior zippered pocket and the same metal feet on the bottom.

1. The BBC Thread. This is what eco-friendly fashion is about.  It’s creative, chic, and smart.  Their video called Konnie Goes Vintage is awesome. Their site is not updated as frequently as I would like but it’s definitely worth the wait!
2. Michelle Kaufmann: simple yet innovative ideas on how to make your life as eco-friendly as possible.  Her you tube videos are fun, and quirky.  Check out her video on how to make a basket out of the wire used in notebooks…SO COOL!
3. Urban Renewal it’s an exclusive brand to Urban Outfitters.  They don’t have a huge selection, but the pieces are truly one of a kind.  They take men’s shirts, vintage T-shirts, and they even use old sheets! Check out their open back tunic (made with men’s shirts), and the surplus shirt jacket (made from a variety of vintage pieces which means…each one is 100% unique!)

4. Swap Style is the place to go for some guilt free shopping.  It’s basically an online swap party.  Membership is free and sometimes people post things without even wanting anything in return COME ON….HOW CAN YOU BEAT THAT!
5. Freecycle.org an entirely nonprofit site.  You sign up for FREE and find your community.  Each local group even has a local volunteer to facilitate the “freecycling.”  The idea of this site is to keep perfectly good stuff that people don’t want from ending up in landfills.
