As a longtime fan of the oil infused beauty product Moroccanoil (if you’ve never used it you’re missing out) trust me when I tell you that it not only leaves your hair unbelievably healthy and beautiful but it can also be used on your skin and it smells amazing! The creators of the powerful and versatile Moroccanoil beauty product have now created a must watch mini-series called Inspired By Women that’s directed by Academy and Emmy Award winning Bryce Dallas Howard. The video follows the story of several inspiring women who discuss beauty through inspiration and share their impressive achievements.

The group of six brilliant women includes Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who’s also the Moroccanoil brand ambassador who shares her story, the amazing women in her life and what pushes her to evolve and grow. Along with the gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whiteley the other brilliant women include Uncharted Play co-founder Jessica O.Matthews, FreshPaper inventor Kavita Shukla, The Sato Project founder Chrissy Beckles, Threads for Teens founder Allyson Ahlstrom, and Rebecca Welsh, the founder of The HALO Foundation.

Some of the women fought for their beliefs and some invented for their cause but the one thing that all the amazing women featured have in common: one person and idea can make a huge difference. Click on the link below to watch and learn more about each individual cause.

Bloomingdale’s to Sell Jean Paul Gaultier Bag to Raise HIV/AIDS Awareness & Funds

May 29, 2014 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

I love it when fashion joins forces with a good cause. amfAR, the foundation for AIDS research, just announced the release of a special edition tote bag by fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for HIV/AIDS.

The exclusive launch will be at Bloomingdale’s department stores for a limited time. The stylish limited edition tote bag will have a nautical-inspired design by Gaultier, a longtime supporter of amfAR, along with the designer’s signature across the front. Another friend of the amfaR foundation is the gorgeous model Heidi Klum who graciously donated her time to model the bag (see below)
“I have admired amfAR and their dedication to finding a cure for HIV/AIDS through research for many years now,” said Klum. “This tote bag is a great way to make a statement – whether you’re at the beach, by the pool, or at the park – and let people know that you are supporting amfAR’s efforts to end the AIDS epidemic.”
Starting June 1, the tote bag will be available at Bloomingdale’s department stores across the United States for only $35, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to amfAR’s research programs. The bags will also be available from amfAR at it’s online shops http://shop.amfar.org/ mid-summer.

Inspirational Student Spotlight

As a parent it’s a given that we want to be a role model to our kids. But sometimes life gives us these little gifts and it’s the child that provides the inspiration.   My stepson, Douglas, has always been actively involved in community projects like food drives throughout high school, but little did I know that it was only the start of a passion to give back in every imaginable way.  Today, only a year away from graduating college, he has already worked in every office there (President’s Office, Admissions, Advancement, Financial Aid, Business Office, and Academics Office) and tutors and mentors other students on a weekly basis.

From a charitable perspective, Douglas has racked up an impressive checklist that only gets longer every year: Through his college, Douglas went to the Appalachia region (one of the poorest regions in the U.S.) to help repair homes.  This August he leaves for India as part of an internship with his school to perform humanitarian work (going to a leper colony, school for handicapped, feeding the poor). To round 2012, Douglas is slated to go to Liberia to assist in the development of a school to meet the educational needs of the children after a civil war there.  Of course, all of this is in addition to his several trips to Nicaragua with his church.  And when I told him I was going to do a post about his penchant for giving back he said, “don’t forget to mention that I like to take long walks on the beach!”  Yeah, he’s gonna be a fun one to watch!

Now you can also help make a difference by just one click.  For every Wave for Change® video view at Neutrogena.com/waveforchange or on Facebook.com/Neutrogena, Neutrogena® will donate $1 to GlobalGiving to support U.S. educational charities.  Watch.  Donate. Share.

Any Neutrogena® Wave for Change® video views on Neutrogena.com/waveforchange and on Neutrogena® page on Facebook 7/1/12-8/31/12 will activate $1 donation to GlobalGiving.  Neutrogena® will kick-off Wave for Change® with $100K donation.  Then, for each eligible video view, Neutrogena® will donate for a maximum of $130K.  For more information about GlobalGiving, visit GlobalGiving.org.

Sparkle For A Cure!

October is here in full force, and while some will remember it for the chilly winds and changing of the leaves (or the opportunity to breakout those knee-high boots that have been sitting sadly in the back of the closet all summer), others will remember October for its signature color, pink.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Szul.com, an online jewelry retailer, has launched their “Sparkle For A Cure” campaign. Szul will be donating 15% of proceeds on their pink product picks to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Over 90% of all dollars donated to the BCRF go directly to research grants and awareness programs. They have over 80 pink products to choose from, but here are some of our favorites!

Pink Topaz Circle Pendant: $129
