Bloomingdale’s to Sell Jean Paul Gaultier Bag to Raise HIV/AIDS Awareness & Funds

I love it when fashion joins forces with a good cause. amfAR, the foundation for AIDS research, just announced the release of a special edition tote bag by fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for HIV/AIDS.

The exclusive launch will be at Bloomingdale’s department stores for a limited time. The stylish limited edition tote bag will have a nautical-inspired design by Gaultier, a longtime supporter of amfAR, along with the designer’s signature across the front. Another friend of the amfaR foundation is the gorgeous model Heidi Klum who graciously donated her time to model the bag (see below)
“I have admired amfAR and their dedication to finding a cure for HIV/AIDS through research for many years now,” said Klum. “This tote bag is a great way to make a statement – whether you’re at the beach, by the pool, or at the park – and let people know that you are supporting amfAR’s efforts to end the AIDS epidemic.”
Starting June 1, the tote bag will be available at Bloomingdale’s department stores across the United States for only $35, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to amfAR’s research programs. The bags will also be available from amfAR at it’s online shops http://shop.amfar.org/ mid-summer.

Inspirational Student Spotlight

As a parent it’s a given that we want to be a role model to our kids. But sometimes life gives us these little gifts and it’s the child that provides the inspiration.   My stepson, Douglas, has always been actively involved in community projects like food drives throughout high school, but little did I know that it was only the start of a passion to give back in every imaginable way.  Today, only a year away from graduating college, he has already worked in every office there (President’s Office, Admissions, Advancement, Financial Aid, Business Office, and Academics Office) and tutors and mentors other students on a weekly basis.

From a charitable perspective, Douglas has racked up an impressive checklist that only gets longer every year: Through his college, Douglas went to the Appalachia region (one of the poorest regions in the U.S.) to help repair homes.  This August he leaves for India as part of an internship with his school to perform humanitarian work (going to a leper colony, school for handicapped, feeding the poor). To round 2012, Douglas is slated to go to Liberia to assist in the development of a school to meet the educational needs of the children after a civil war there.  Of course, all of this is in addition to his several trips to Nicaragua with his church.  And when I told him I was going to do a post about his penchant for giving back he said, “don’t forget to mention that I like to take long walks on the beach!”  Yeah, he’s gonna be a fun one to watch!

Fruit of the Loom is teaming up with EIF Revlon Run/Walk For Women to support the fight against women’s cancers. Starting this week, Fruit of the Loom and EIF Revlon Run/Walk launched a contest, inviting consumers to submit a T-Shirt design to help support the cause. Consumers that are interested in participating can visit the EIF Run/Walk Website and/or EIF Revlon Run/Walk Facebook page for more information and to download their entry submission forms. Designs must be submitted toFruitoftheLoomDesign@revlonrunwalk.org by April 10, 2012. Three finalists will be selected for the public to view and vote on their favorite on the EIF Revlon Run/Walk Facebook page from April 18 – April 21, 2012.

The winning design, selected by public an announced on April 24, 2012, will be printed on Fruit of the Loom Crew Neck T-shirts and given to hosts & special guests at the EIF Revlon Run/Walk events in New York City (May 5, 2012) and Los Angeles (May 12, 2012). 350 T-shirts featuring the winner’s design will be sold at the L.A.
