The Formula: Denim Jacket

~ The Formula: Denim Jacket ~

Still one of my favorite dresses.

Whenever I want to look pulled together but not too dressy I throw on a denim jacket.  I’ve had this dress from Ross for years and I’ve worn it solo during the summer, with sweaters and tights when it’s cold but my favorite is with denim.  I was originally going to wear my deeper blue Levi’s jacket (seen here) but I thought the distressed one from American Eagle went way better with the boho vibe. Tip:  If you’re lucky enough to get casual Friday’s at work, a denim jacket is an easy replacement for a suit or blazer and you can wear it with any skirt or pants.

What I’m Wearing:

Dress $14.99 from Ross

Distresses Denim Jacket  $39.99 from American Eagle (also seen here)

Crossbody Bag c/o meet mark

Bangles/cuff $12.99 from Macy’s

Penny Wayfarer sunglasses c/o Stunglasses.com

Wedges from Charlotte Russe (also seen here)

Pinspiration: 7 Not So Ugly Ways To Style Birkenstocks

August 14, 2014 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

I’ve always been a die hard fan of Birkenstock but I’m also realistic about how I wear them. They tend to have a sloppy/ugly image so it makes the outfit that much more important. Birkenstocks are either hated or loved – there’s no in between and I get it. They have that “I don’t care” boho-ish feel that I love, but many find to be a stylish turn off. Right now I own a oil leather pair that I bought a few years back and to be honest I haven’t pulled them out in almost 2 years.   Great thing that I held onto them cause the style is back with a vengeance!

This summer Birkenstocks were seen all over the place but in a more polished way and not much is going to change for fall. Silver, white and black birkenstocks are being paired with leather, white skinny jeans, distressed  denim, dresses and sometimes even suits. Either way it’s a good excuse to be both comfy and stylish! I’ve worn them for the most part with cut off shorts and skinny jeans and needed some inspiration check out some of my favorite ways I’ve seen Birkenstocks styled.

Coachella Dreams

Unfortunately I’ve never had the pleasure of attending Coachella but it’s always been a dream and every year I drool over the festival’s free spirited styles & pictures all over the internet.  I figure if I can’t go to Coachella I can live vicariously through the pictures and maybe even incorporate a little into some outfits. A girl (or mom) can still dream…..

Celebrity Copycat: Rachel Zoe’s Look for $100!

November 8, 2013 by

This Copycat has been a challenge in more ways than one! When I was asked to find a few looks for under $100, I decided to stick to regular sizes as opposed to maternity clothes to accommodate my bump because I wanted to be able to use the pieces later on. While shopping at Kmart I knew I wanted a somewhat dressy yet comfy outfit for Thanksgiving and as soon as I saw the maxi skirt and sherling vest it reminded me of a similar outfit on Rachel Zoe.  The vest and the shoes are what make the outfit and both pieces were only $30!  The comfy skirt and top together were only $22 and the fab tote was only $30 with 30% off.  The grand total was around $104 but since I became a member last month Kmart took 10% off the entire total bringing it down to $100 – SCORE!

This is probably my favorite outfit because of the boho vibe that I’ve always loved. I know I’ve said this about other outfits, but this is another look that can be broken down and dressed up even more with some sequins or made more casual by adding flats or boots.  It’s what I look for in all the pieces in my closet: versatility, affordability and of course stylish!

Sherling Vest – $29.99 | Maxi Skirt – $12 | Black V Neck Tee – $9.99 | Tote – $20.99 | Platform Wedges – $29.99

Celebrity Copycat: Rachel Zoe’s Look for Less!

Maxi dresses are a vital part of any woman’s  stylish wardrobe, especially during the summer.  The options are endless, but I have a weakness for a flowing white evening maxi dress (it has this boho goddess feel that just works!).  Check out my favorite celeb looks and the dress for less.

I couldn’t just pick one celeb favorite but I did find one dress that was just gorgeous!  The elaborate details on the evening dress make it look worth WAY more that just $120.  What I particularly like about the dress is the detachable train that looks like something a modern day Stevie Nicks would wear on a red carpet.

Maxi Evening Dress- $120.99 at JJsHouse.com

There you have it two inspirations and one beautiful boho maxi dress now all you need is a pair of funky platforms, a clutch and you’re good to go!

Platforms – $89.99 at Heels.com | Metallic Clutch – $20 at Zara.com | Super Betsey Clutch – $88 at BetseyJohnson.com

My One of a Kind Style

February 22, 2013 by

To help celebrate the kick off of the Diet Dr Pepper Sweepstakes on March 4th  I was asked to write about my one of a kind style.  In a nutshell, my style has always been eclectic and deeply inspired by music and movies.  Musicians like Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin played perfectly to my boho/hippie style, while actresses like Edie Sedgewick and Natalie Wood greatly influenced my flirty retro looks and even my hair.  While in high school I shopped the malls like every American teenager, but I was always looking for ways to add pieces that were unique and found on the side streets where thrift stores thrived.  No joke I hit every smoky dungeon I could find in New York in a fervent effort to add to my trendier mall finds (something I still do to this day).

My style hasn’t changed much and I still shop at the malls for affordable trendy pieces but as I get older I’ve learned to dress to my evolving body and shape and the thrift store finds focus more on jackets, bags and more importantly accessories!  I tend to lean more towards modern, better fitting pieces but still keep my overall look in the boho vein.  I believe that it’s the little details that count and not a specific style. For example, one day I will be dressed in a modern white jacket with skinny jeans but the next time you bump into me I’ll be wearing the very same jacket over a flowing dress (like the one seen below).  Two completely different styles that I make my very own with over sized bags, chunky rings, a stack of bangles and always – and I mean always – with a pair of over sized shades.

In my look below I decided to try out a trendy high low dress for the very first time.  I decided to give this one a shot because it has all the right elements of everything that my style embraces.  The feminine length and chiffon is complimented by a studded camouflage  top – I love it and it was only $25!  As soon as I saw it I immediately envisioned it with a cropped denim jacket and flats but when I brought it home I realized that it would look amazing with my white blazer and ankle tie wedges. The jacket definitely gives it a dressier look and the bow on the wedges give it the perfect dainty touch.

I’m all about the accessories, but it has to be the right amount.  While this outfit has plenty of character thanks to the camo, studs and white jacket, I had to add a ton of bangles! The belt was a last minute add-on that looks like it came with the dress and helped accentuate my waist a bit.

I actually debated on using a clutch but this zippered accented bag played off the camo’s masculine feel.

From the front this jacket looks like your basic boxy cut blazer, but the back is what makes it special and the high low hem accentuaed it even more – love it!

So there you have it!  My One of a Kind Style: a little boho, a tad tomboy, but 100% girly girl when it comes to accessories and shoes.
