How to Choose the Best Eyeglass Frames for Your Face

January 8, 2014 by

The following is a guest post

There was a time when wearing eyeglasses was considered “not cool.” Now, though, there are plenty of attractive frames available for men, women and children that complement natural style and can be attractive accessories. If you find yourself in need of a new pair of frames, consider these variables as you shop in order to choose the right style for your face.

glass

Balance Face Shape
The basic shape of your face is probably the most important factor when choosing frames. Everyone has a unique facial structure, but there are a few basic shapes you can use as guidelines when choosing a design that fits your face.
• Angular faces such as diamonds and squares benefit from rounded frames that help to soften the sharp lines.
• Round and oval faces look good with sharp, angular frame shapes but are also flattered by shapes that match the contours of the face.
• Long, narrow faces do best with glasses that have broad tops and heavy upper frames or decorative accents. These features help the face appear shorter.
• Triangular faces may be narrow at the top or at the bottom. Look for frames that are wider and heavier at whichever side your face is thinnest.

Complement Eyebrow Shape
As you’re looking at your face shape, take note of the contour of your eyebrows. Eyebrows are a prominent, expressive feature that can be accentuated to good effect with an attractive pair of eyeglasses. Following the shape of your eyebrows helps add definition to your eye area. Rectangular frames look good with straight or flat eyebrows while frames with rounded tops flatter a curved brow shape.

Consider Color
Look at the color of your eyes and hair as well as your skin tone to determine if your basic colors are more “warm” or “cool.” Choose frames that complement these tones for a balanced, attractive look. As you think about colors, consider your personality as well. Eyeglasses are an accessory to every outfit that you wear, so you want to be sure to choose something that reflects your inherent style. If you wear makeup, use your favorite palette to help you choose a similar frame color that highlights the best features of your face.

Keep Your Eyes Centered
Centering your eyes inside your chosen frames is both fashionable and practical. When the frames sit too high or too low, it becomes difficult to see out of your lenses properly. This undermines the whole point of wearing glasses by forcing you to peer under or over the frames instead of through them. Frames that are too high also interfere with the appearance of your eyebrows, resulting in an unbalanced look that doesn’t flatter any face shape.

As you look to balance all of these factors, keep your budget in mind. Cheap eyeglasses are available everywhere from your optometrist’s office to the optical department of your favorite store and online at Coastal Contacts. Shop around for the frames that suit you best so you can step out in style with a new pair of glasses.

5 Trendy Homecoming Accessories of 2013

November 6, 2013 by

Are you looking to make a statement on that special night? Well then, it’s time to complement the homecoming dress with the right kind of accessories. In fact, they should be no-brainers regardless of whether you’re wearing a formal gown or something causal.

Below are some tips on how to get the right accessories to go with your dress while being in line with the latest trends at the same time.

Earrings

Big earrings, such as hoops and chandelier are quite popular and look dazzling on most occasions, but sometimes they can take the attention away from you and make themselves the center of attention.

So for homecoming this year, go simple and try some smaller studs along with an up-do that makes them visible without stealing the attraction you deserve.

Go for pearls or crystal studs that complement the color of your dress. The up-do you choose to go with the earrings can be of any kind, but some of the latest trends include a sleek bun or a messy chignon.

Rings

Finding the appropriate rings for homecoming  can be a challenge since there are so many designs available. Gemstone rings that include stones made from gold and sapphire, or a mixture of both, are quite the rage these days as they complement most evening dresses.

Moreover, the colorful options aren’t as limited as they were a few years ago. The different types of sapphire rings offered by brands that deal in contemporary styles shows that there are a multitude of available colors like blue, yellow, black, etc. Front Jewelers even offers a pretty pink sapphire rings as an option.

On the other hand, if you like gaudy rings, try out something big  and bold with rhinestones and sapphire. A plain band with a single sapphire on it as an adornment would do justice if you decide to go with simple and elegant look.

Necklaces

Statement necklaces might make your outfit pop, but for a formal occasion like homecoming, a short chain necklace would serve the purpose.

You can select something with a delicate chain in gold or silver and a small, delicate charm that goes with your homecoming dress.

For instance, if you’re going with a dress that features some bling, an ideal option would be a necklace with a rhinestone charm.

Hair Accessories

This year, headpieces/ headbands are the most flattering hair accessory. However, avoid something too overbearing for the event.

Instead, you can get a simple and elegant little piece with beading and pearls that add a little elegance to your hair yet completes your outfit with the perfect dose of glamour.

Also, make sure that the elastic of the headband is stretchable and soft enough to fit in with comfort and ease, so that you can enjoy a comfortable experience throughout the night.

Clutch Purses

Clutch purses are perhaps the most appropriate accessory for homecoming to carry the necessities. Among the offerings available, metallic clutches in varying designs are setting the trend this year.

If animal print is your forte, a metallic clutch with an animal print design would be a good option. However, if your dress is very simple in design and doesn’t require anything bold, go with a clutch purse with sequins covering its entire surface–this creates a metallic effect.  It is also important that you consider a small size so that that you can carry it around with ease.

These accessories will give your look some extra personality without looking overdone.

Big Bold Summer Earrings Under $50

With the summer heat comes humidity and if you have long hair then it also brings on the frizz.   While I like my hair to have a slept in look, sometimes it just gets to be too much and I need to pull it up and away from my face.   I clip it up and throw on big pretty earrings.  It’s the one time of year where I style my hair up and I take total advantage of it by swapping out my studs and hoops for bold sparkly earrings.  I look for style that is longer in length rather than width to elongate my neck and with the enormous amount of affordable styles available it’s super easy to splurge and get yourself a new pair for everyday of the week.  Check out some of my favorites under $50.

1. Freya Chandelier Earrings – $48 at Emmastine.com | 2. Dijon Chandelier Earrings – $16.50 at Rickis.com | 3. Two Tone Bead Earrings – $32 at Macys.com | 4. Cuffs & Stuff

I’ve been stacking different types of bangles on my right wrist for as long as I can remember.  The routine is simple: I get dressed, grab a handful of bangles, slide them on and away I go.   But not long ago one of my boys found two leather bracelets while digging through my jewelry and strapped them on my wrist (my little boys are fascinated with the amount of jewelry and shoes I have).

Anyway, I have yet to take them off…I even sleep with them…and now I just pile on cuffs, watches and other leather bracelets that I’ve had for ages but never even worn.  I know this going to sound a bit eccentric but I’ve never liked the way new jewelry, shoes (more boots and sandals) or bags look so most of the time they don’t become a favorite they’re all worn in – which is why I love the leather bracelets so much.  When you pair a somewhat masculine piece to your accessories it has a “I don’t care” accidental style. And that’s what accessorizing is all about.  Check out some pieces below that would perfect for a stylish mom this Mother’s Day.

Accessory time with ShopNBC

I am all about accessorizing and keeping up with the latest fashions – and what girl doesn’t love jewelry? I say the more “bling” the better as long it is worn in good taste. Keeping up with the latest fashion colors is also important to me and I couldn’t be more pleased with the Pantone 2013 color selection.  Pantone has selected my favorite birthstone as the color of the year – Emerald. Although my birthstone month is actually November (Topaz), I just love the rich, luxurious dark green color.  Pair it up with Lemon Zest, Poppy Red and Monaco Blue, and I can picture a beautiful sunset that goes from pale to vivid in 60 seconds. And As a matter of fact, colored gems and birthstone’s are a great way of weaving the new fashion colors into your wardrobe. It’s easy to find affordable gems and stones in your favorite on trend colors to match your wardrobe, or you can invest in glamorous, precious stones that add that extra sparkle to your outfit.

Check out some of my favorite picks of unique, glittery jewelry pieces from ShopNBC that are in line with 2013’s spring color trends:

This beautiful Ametrine and Sapphire ring resembles a mixture of African Violet and Lemon Zest.

These are a couple more of my favorite items, reminiscent of Pantone’s Grayed Jade (ring) and Nectarine (necklace).

Get Grateful: Journals For The New Year

December 30, 2012 by

I’m not a big fan of the New Year resolution. Sure I love the concept of positive change but the pressure of the clock striking midnight is too much!  But I am a strong believer in gratitude, and that’s something that lasts all year long.  I’ve kept a diary all through high school and now as an adult I keep a gratitude journal. I even bought each of my boys a journal to jot down things they’re grateful for but motivating them to keep up with it is definitely a challenge!  I go through about four journals a year (sometimes more) and I’m always on the look out for cute one’s not only for myself but even to give as gifts to friends ( I always write a note in the journal letting them know how grateful I am that they’re in my life).  It doesn’t have to be an every day thing, even once a week is enough… and that’s a change (not a resolution) that I think is easy to start and keep.  Check out some of the most creative and adorable ones I’ve seen from Yesstyle.

All About The Accessories

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…I’m all about accessories (especially pieces that are versatile and good for all seasons!).  From vintage inspirtaional pieces, bangles piled on high, to studded pieces and funky glasses/sunglasses, accessories are the easiest way to add your signature touch to any outfit.

These studded flats from TJ Maxx have tons of personality and will give any outfit an edgy vibe.

Classic mens button down shirt with a simple, inspirational necklace – love it and I too wear tons of inspirational necklaces (as mentioned here).

The Square One ring from Twisted Silver is my absolute favorite. Made from recycled objects, it’s perfectly “imperfect” with a fabulous vintage feel.

Love to see a guy with a crisp white tee, funky glasses and a stack of beaded bracelets – effortless style that won’t go out of style!!

Bangles…and I mean tons of bangles piled on high….are must for any season 🙂

Statement necklaces like this one from the Kardashian Kollection are easily transitioned from day to night.

A bright clutch will add a pop of stylish color to summer dresses or jeans.

One of my favorite trends this season: booties with shorts.  Wear them all year round for a casually cool look.
This belt can easily pass for vintage and it’s so chic.  Pair with a white button down or cinch it around your favorite dress.

A boyfriend watch is a no brainer and should be in every girl’s jewelry box.

Bold earring for all seasons!
