When I received a necklace to review by it’s designer (14 year old Sydney Martin) I immediately thought of one of my favorite quotes by Ralph Lauren: “I don’t design clothes.  I design dreams.”  Affectionately dubbed “Syd Rocks,” the necklaces are crafted from handpicked stones and 100 percent of the proceeds are donated to a charity that Sydney Supports.  Check out her story below!

The reason I love making necklaces out of rocks is that every single one of them is unique and beautiful in its own way.  No matter how hard you try you will never find two rocks that are the same just like people.  Rocks are also a symbol of strength because there is nothing more strong and earthy than a rock.  It is something you can grab onto during challenging times.

When I first started, I was only 8 years old.  I found rocks with holes int hem on the beaches of Lake Michigan and turned them into fun necklaces with colorful string.  I would sell these fun necklaces to my friends and family as one of my hobbies.  Two years later, I was diagnosed with LCH (Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis) I wanted to come up with a way to do something helpful to find a cure for the disease and not just sit there and be helpless about the whole situation.  That is when I came up with the idea to sell my necklaces to raise money for LCH.  To this day of all the money from the sale of my necklaces and $10 of every t shirt is donated to Histiocytosis research.  For more info visit –

LCH is a rare blood disease that is treated with chemotherapy and steroids.  It is very similar to cancer but it is not classified as a cancer.  this disease affect 1in 200,000 children per year.  It has very little government funding so most of the money for research comes from fundraisers, individual donations and home grown products like Syd Rocks!
