5 New Years Eve Dresses Under $50

Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

I can’t believe the year is almost over!  Where did 2013 go?  I haven’t even decorated the house yet but I did get some shopping done (click here for some stylish gift ideas ) and I do have something to wear for New Year’s (Christmas is at home and I plan to proudly sport some comfy sweats and a ugly christmas sweater).  I always go all out on New Year’s and wear a pretty dress – it’s not often I get to do it so I take full advantage of it.  This year I can’t really take it to the max but I do love the dress I will be wearing. When I do go all out I try to stay away from the typical gaudy dresses that I see all over the place for New Year’s. I look for pieces that are fun, flirty and more importantly something I can wear more than once.  Below are some fabulous dresses all perfect for New Year’s for under $50.

Strapless Floral Mini – $36

Mesh Panel Bodycon Dress – $28

Lace Bodycon Dress – $30

Mini FLoral Dress – $44

Glitter Snake Print Dress – $45.50

Top 5 Gifts for The Beauty Lovers

December 10, 2013 by

I find that my beauty product lovers are the easiest and most fun to shop for.  They’re always open to trying out new things and there’s a TON of options in all sorts of price ranges.  However it can also be a bit daunting because you don’t just want to wrap up a tube of lipstick; so being creative is a challenge BUT fun!  In comes one of my favorite stores: ULTA.  It’s like Disneyland for me and when I go in there I spend at least 2 hours looking at their enormous range of products and sometimes I even get my makeup done if I have the time.  Last weekend I headed in to my local ULTA to get a little holiday shopping done and it was even more fun than usual.  They had tons of holiday gift sets, great price ranges and they were giving  a free robe when you spend over $50 in perfumes – score!  Now I didn’t have a huge list of gifts to buy from ULTA so I had the opportunity to really splurge on the lucky ones and got to gift myself a few goodies.  Check out my top 5 picks below and make sure to check out ULTA’s holiday gift list for more ideas.

For those who are tired of battling frizz the Holiday All That Glitters Ultra Chi Flat Iron is perfect! I love this flat iron and have been using it for quite some time.  It cuts down the straightening process in half and you can even curl  your ends with it.  The glittery flat iron is fun and a must have in any woman’s hair accessories.

Makeup junkies will love these adorable Naught and Nice bags that can be filled with Mariah Carey’s new Opi nail polishes as a bonus gift.

One of my favorite makeup sets to gift was the Vice 2 Urban Decay’s limited edition eye platte. It’s a great addition to any  makeup collection.  A perfect bonus would be Benefits Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara.  I snagged a tube while I was there and it’s insane how long they make your eyelashes look – a must have!

One of the goodies that I picked for myself was the Clarisonic Mia 2.  I needed this SO bad!  My skin has been horrible and dull  this season that not even my normal face routine was cutting it.  I gave this baby a try and boom my face literally felt cleaner and looked more refreshed and even healthier.

Every girl loves to get perfume and I love Marc Jacobs’ Honey and use it as my day time go to perfume. When I saw it in the front aisle I jumped at one of the last two boxes left!  Sweet perfume and bottle.

5 Hair Accessories Every Women Should Own

December 9, 2013 by

Whether your hair is black or blonde, straight or curly, there are some accessories that every woman needs to own. We’ve catalogued 5 essential hair accessories by Hershesons that every woman must have in her collection.

  1. Hairbands

A good hairband or two, or ten is essential for style success. Choose a wide range of hairbands in different colours and textures so that you have something ready for every occasion.  Tip: Keep it simple!  The idea is to look sleek and polished.

2. Brushes

From padded brushes to combs, it’s important to have a variety of brushes available to keep your hair healthy. Remember to brush or comb your hair every day for style and volume.  Tip: Keep a flat and round ionic brush for a smooth finish.

3. Hairdryer (and attachments)

Keep a good hairdryer (as well as several attachments) ready in your bathroom for early mornings where it’s vital that you look your best.  Tip:  Let your hair air a bit before you start blow drying to minimize damage.

4. Pins & Bands

Pins, bands, and clips are all essential parts of a complete hair accessory set. Keep a few clips or bands in your handbag for days where your hair just doesn’t want to cooperate and needs taming.  Tip:  Buy stylish clips and bands to accessorize your outfit.  Look for studs, stones and or prints that compliment the color of your hair.

5. Rollers, Curling Iron, and Straightener

Maximise your hair versatility with these three convenient accessories. Switch from straight and tidy to cute and curly on a moment’s notice using your curling wand or hair straightener. For tight and tidy curls, stick to your curling iron. For loose and stylish waves, use your rollers. For the ultimate straight hair, give yourself 10 minutes of quality time with your straightener every morning.  Tip:  For hard to curl hair spray with dry shampoo to keep the wave and for hard to straighten hair use a light serum before the flat iron.

Five Christmas Party Fashion Tips

December 7, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

This holiday season, you might want to consider some fresh fashion alternatives to set yourself apart from the red satin and black sequin brigade at festive functions.

There is a healthy variety of textures and hues to explore in the current crop of holiday pieces. The wise place to start is with an honest assessment of your budget. You should account for your projected gift list, extra groceries and gas for travel and any other fees you can think of.

Once you do that, you will have a clear plan of how to maximize your holiday dressing with a healthy dose of chic.

Sparkle on a Shoestring Budget

If you can honestly say you can’t afford a new dress this season, consider re-working some old favorites.

You can breath new life into a plain black strapless dress by donning a lace bodysuit underneath it or investing in a new lace shrug. A simple side braid or low ponytail will help keep the look streamlined and you can add interest by creating a custom belt or headband for shine.

The simplest way to achieve this is by purchasing some black grosgrain or satin ribbon and sewing on clusters of rhinestone buttons or a pretty brooch in the center to create a unique accent.

If you have an old pantsuit, you can take it to the tailor to have the pants brought in and tapered to a pretty retro cigarette pant length. This will allow you to put the focus on a new pair of glitzy pumps in a fashion-forward shade such as chartreuse, blush or royal blue.

Host a Fashion Swap

If you have a few stylish friends or family members, you may want to pool your resources before the holidays to give everyone fresh looks without ever opening a wallet.

Your formal brocade pencil skirt might look stellar with your friend’s black gloves, velvet booties or plum tights.

Be sure to have each lady bring the same amount of pieces to the party so each person is more likely to end up with a complete look.

Skim the Sales Racks

You can find some great unconventional colors on the clearance racks if you look carefully.

Late summer pieces in cream can easily become winter white with some careful styling. A gold sequined cardigan or black textured tights will make you look decidedly more expensive.

Mint green has also quietly become a hot color in 2013. A mint green brocade dress from spring will look “Mad Men” sexy when paired with a vintage fur neck wrap and some deep bronze leather kitten heels. You can keep the look from looking too costume-y by pairing it with a messy milkmaid braid or loose waves.

Play Frankenstein

Perhaps you have an old black tulle formal dress hanging in the black of your closet. You could easily have the skirt cut off and hemmed into a fresh high-low shape. A cropped mohair sweater will keep you on trend.

Or you can have the back of a plain black blazer cut out and replaced with appliqued lace for a new take on drama.

With a little imagination, the clothes in your closet can be re-mixed into something worthy of a private boutique.

Invest Wisely in New Pieces

If you discover you do have the funds to buy a new dress, try to look for one that will give you some more mileage into other seasons.

Fuschia, emerald green and goldenrod are great jewel tones that look just as perfect in the spring and fall as they do in front of a Christmas tree. Look for classic shapes that have a modern twist, such as an exposed zipper, peplum or a modest cutout.

With a little planning, you will be the best dressed at every party you attend.

Lace Maternity Dress

December 6, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

I’ve been searching high and low for a dress to wear on New Year’s Eve and it hasn’t been the easiest task.  Sure they’re tons of cute maternity dresses but they never ever seem to fit me the way I want them to.  They’re always too lose at the bottom giving it a tent like look.  I understand the purpose of the fit and I’m all about the comfort but when it comes to just wanting to look and feel normal for one night and snap some pics it just doesn’t work for me.  In comes Pink Blush maternity who graciously sent me a beautiful burgundy lace dress that not only fits me perfectly but it also has three quarter sleeves, a flattering must and a good amount of stretch for comfort. I literally did the happy dance when I opened the package.  The burgundy color gives the affordable dress a luxurious look that would be perfect with any of my heels once I have the baby and can fit back into them.  Check it out below and make sure to check back next week where I will style the other adorable piece that they sent me.

How To Look Stylish & Current In Freezing Cold Weather

December 4, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

Winter is here, and it is snowing, raining, and cold. How can you stay warm, and still look stylish? Just because it is cold outside does not mean that you have to layer up so much that you look like a blob. Just follow our tips for staying warm and chic, and you will light up any room that you walk into.

– If you live in a place where it snows regularly, the best thing you can do for yourself is to invest in quality thermal underwear. Stores like Essential Apparel and Land’s End carry great lines that will keep you warm during the day, and will not bulk you up unnecessarily.

– Whatever you do, do not go bare! Unless you live in sunny California (and even there you are not guaranteed eighty degree weather all year round), you will freeze your butt off in cold weather. Instead, if you want to wear dresses or skirts, opt for textured tights, which will keep your legs warm, and add a bit of visual interest to your outfit. Pair them with boots of any length. We especially like sweater dresses over tights with knee high boots, for a classic schoolgirl look.

– Be a bright spot. During the winter, everyone wears blacks, greys, and neutrals. It creates a very blah fashion landscape. If you want to stand out, wear bright colors. Opt for a bright red overcoat, or accessorize your outfit with a teal scarf. Jewel tones always look especially great in winter. To make sure you do not overdo it, pick one piece for the bright color, and keep the rest of your outfit neutral. You can find pretty accessories and great coats at stores like Boscov’s.

– Invest in a signature coat. Everyone needs a coat during the winter, and you might as well splurge on the nicest, most comfortable coat you can afford. The classic trench is always a winner, but if you want to update your coat for this winter, we love the pink overcoats that are on trend right now. Fur lined parkas are also a great option.

– Have fun with accessories. During winter, you will be wearing a hat, gloves or mitts, along with scarves, boots and thick socks and tights. There is absolutely no reason why any of these items have to be boring. Go along with your inner whimsy and pick playfully textured scarves, colorful gloves, and boots that are made for looking at.

– Skip the scarves and wear a turtleneck. Turtlenecks are making a comeback this winter season, and they are an easy outfit choice. We especially love solid jewel-toned turtlenecks paired with dark jeans or basic black pants.

– Do not be lazy with the outfit underneath your coat. It is easy to just throw on any old thing underneath a fabulous coat and call it a day, but we highly recommend against it. For one thing, you never know when you will need to take your coat off, and for another thing, you will feel more confident when your entire outfit, from head to toe, is put together and thought out.

Girls Night Out Holiday Party Ideas

December 4, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

When Sauze Sparkling Margaritas asked me to share some ideas for a perfect girls night out holiday party, I thought “PERFECT TIMING!”  I absolutely love this time of year but it can be a bit stressful juggling the gift shopping with work and kids. I can think of no better gift to than a fun girls night together that included some DIY holiday projects, chips, dip and of course fabulous cocktails!

First I would find a few easy holiday projects from Pinterest (that can also be used as gifts – check out some cool ideas below). Before the party I would have each person pick a project ahead of time and then bring their own supplies.  The décor for the evening would be simple so as not to distract from the crafting; last year I made snow jars that lit up and it was a big hit.

While the party is getting started I would have some yummy avocado and mango salad along with some corn chips to go with the drinks.  Now normally during the holidays I would pop a bottle of champagne, but that’s the genius of Sauza Sparkling Margaritas – it’s like having a summer treat with a celebratory drink all at once! For my cocktail creations I would choose Wild Berry for the festive color and mango because it happens to be my favorite fruit.  For a touch of glam I would add blackberries to the raspberry drink. For dessert I would serve coconut sorbet with the mango margarita and top it off with some bananas and coconut shavings.

Simple mango salad it’s a year round favorite that takes only minutes to make.

chop up 1 whole red onion

1 whole peeled mango either chopped into cubes or cut into long slices

1/4 of a cup of fresh cilantro leaves

1 small tomato cute into 1/4 inch pieces

2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice

salt and pepper to your liking

Pinterest DIY Projects:

Personalized Coffee Mugs

Candle Holders

ADORABLE advent calendar using outgrown baby socks.

Chalk board necklaces that would make a great teachers gift

Serving Sauza Sparkling Margaritas is a fab new take on holiday drinks and one that will make the night fun and bubbly.

Lauren Conrad looks so sweet and girly in a maxi skirt, lace tank and blazer (all from her line at Kohls). It has an airy feel that looks expensive and can be worn a few different ways. I love this outfit for the holiday’s as opposed to the traditional red, green and black.  Pair the blazer with jeans, the tank with leather leggings or skirt and give the maxi skirt a go with some denim and a cozy sweater.  Check her look as well as the other outfit I put together using the same pieces.
