3 Easy Ways To Make Your Casual Outfit Glam for New Year’s Eve

December 30, 2013 by

Tomorrow is  New Years Eve and I’ve got nothing planned and I’m totally excited about it!  Normally I’m out and about at some party but this year has been a bit hectic (in a good way) and I’m staying in. That of course will not change a thing when it comes to getting all dressed up. I plan on throwing on some bling, some red lipstick and some cute flats (I can’t fit into heels for more than 20 minutes).  Below ares some simple ideas for those of you ringing in the New Year from the comfort of your home or the home of your loved ones.

Sequins: Try anything with sequins but I love me a sequin top and jeans.  Tip:  For a little layering affect get a slouchy top and leave little black or white tank peeking out from underneath.

Sequin Top from Victoria Secret | Hollister Jeans | Tassle Flats from Modcloth | Tank

Go Monochromatic: Pick a color (I prefer black, white or gray) and wear it from head to toe.  Not only is it super easy to throw together but it also has a slimming effect AND a expensive feel.

Peplum Top | Gray Skinny Jeans | Booties | Necklace | Mac Lipstick

Add a Statement Necklace:  This is the easiest and fool proof way to dress up any outfit.  Wear your biggest boldest necklace over a turtleneck, with a button down or over simple white tee.  Tip: Look for necklaces with  mixture of bold and basic colors. This will give you more wiggle room when styling a casual outfit.

Multi Stone Necklace | Purple Frontal Necklace | Yellow Stone Bib Necklace

To say that I’m a hardcore TV watcher is a understatement and my DVR is filled to the max with all types of shows.  Like a lot of people, I record shows but hold off on watching them so I can have a little marathon at the end of each season.  Right now one of the shows that I just currently got caught up with is the sexy VH1 hit Single Ladies.  Since I’m a fan VH1 sent me the new Single Ladies ebook series that accompanies the show.   For those of you who are missing out, get ready to get sucked right in! Single Ladies is set in Atlanta and centers on three friends with completely different perceptions of relationships, sex and of course love.  Think Sex and The City with a ton more drama!

The Single Ladies e-book is set up as a season 2 finale and season 3 premier connector which not only serves to get you caught up on the show and hooked, but for die-hard fans like me it’s a great quick fix in between seasons. The e-book that is available on AmazonItunes and Barnes & Noble for only $9.99  is a quick fun read …I loved it and thanks to VH1, we’re giving away  the set that focuses on April, Raquel and Keisha to one lucky reader.  Simply tweet this post and leave a comment below stating that you did with the url to your tweet.  For an extra entry like Fashiongrail on facebook (make sure you mention that you did below in a separate comment). One winner will be picked Friday, January 3rd.

In celebration of the ebooks launch VH1 will ALSO be hosting a sweepstakes giving away the new eBooks and Single Ladies inspired Cocotique Beauty Boxes!

Cocotique is a beauty sample box subscription that is catered to women of color and diverse ethnic backgrounds with products that were made exclusively for them.

VH’1s first hour-long scripted series, Single Ladies, returns for a third season on January 6th at 9/8c. This romantic comedy stars LisaRaye McCoy (Keisha), Denise Vasi (Raquel) and Charity Shae (April)- Three best friends with different philosophies on love, sex and relationships, proving not all women have the same sex drives. The modern, sexy series set in the world of Atlanta fashion, music and celebrity explores the women’s different approaches to relationships.

My Beauty Diary Mask Review

December 24, 2013 by

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m a die hard beauty junkie!  Last time I had the opportunity to review the Yesstyle Beauty Box it included a sample of the Juicy Mask Sheets but this time I got an entire box of the Beauty Diary Black Pearl Mask.  The pack includes 10 masks that you apply for 20-30 minutes.  I was really looking forward to trying this black pearl mask out because my skin has been struggling lately.  I’ve tried a variety of products like  and they all work for a couple of days and then it’s back to my stressed out, dry, exhausted broken out skin.  It’s a combo of the confusing weather here in Florida and my pregnancy hormones – not fun!  Anyway, when I put on the black pearl mask the first thing I noticed was how soothing and almost relaxing (no mask will ever make me relax 100% percent lol) it was after it was applied and the generous amount of serum is a also a plus.  I’ve tried a lot of mask and it’s either sticky or dries out too quickly.

I decided not to do the mask every day to determine whether or not the effect would last longer than 24 hours and it  did!  In between I didn’t use anything other than my facial wash and my skin was still soft and moisturized but more importantly it didn’t look dull.  Tip:  Make sure you pull your hair back and place mask in place to get the serum evenly spread out.  At a little over a dollar each its definitely worth a try if you’re looking to pamper yourself and give your skin a little boost.  Not sure which mask to try first?  Then give the special mask set a try.  It comes with a variety of different mask to give you a chance to test them all out for  only $15.  For more info on the Black Pearl Mask visit Yesstyle.com

Diamond Print Cardigan Styled Three Ways

I’m a huge fan of cardigans especially oversized ones  with a pattern like this one with a diamond print (click here to see the last one featured) .  They give any outfit a layered more polished look while still maintaining a comfy casual look.  Perfect for ANYONE and can be worn with jeans and a tee, over a little black dress or over a head toe black look.  This particular cardigan has a vintage feel that makes it look way more expensive than $45 and can definitely be worn a ton of times right through spring!

Diamond Print Cardigan | Peplum Top | Leather Pencil Skirt | Ankle Strap Pumps | Satchel

Diamond Print Cardigan | Crepe Dress | Ballerina Ankle Strap Flats | Studded Clutch

Diamond Print Cardigan | Camisole | Metallic Cigarette Pants | Pumps

Black & White

SO happy I can still squeeze into this black  dress and my favorite white blazer.  Love the black and white combo for an evening look and the red bag for a pop of color.  I’ll definitely have this red bag in hand a lot during the holidays.  Wondering why I’m rocking the animal print heels a lot lately?  They’re one of the very few heels that still fit me comfortably.  Thank God I love them. 🙂

Shoes are comfy for about 20 minutes.  Had to put them aside to finish taking pictures.  Good thing I packed my flats inside my bag 🙂

Make Style A Breeze In The New Year

December 19, 2013 by
Filed under Boys on the Side

With January fast approaching, you’d better make sure your wardrobe’s well-equipped to handle the cold weather – and preferably in style. Let’s take a look at what’s in this winter:

 Grey on grey

According to GQ, going grey from top to toe is one of this season’s biggest trends, thanks to designers like Neil Barrett and Viktor & Rolf. You don’t need 50 shades of grey to pull it off, either – a dark charcoal suit with matching tie, coupled with a lighter smoke-grey shirt, is all you need to look the business.

A velvet blazer helps ramp up the style and sophistication of any outfit, as Ron Burgundy knows all too well. Seriously, though, this is a great embellishment for those who want to make a bigger impact – and if you don’t want to go all the way with it, a velvet tie or bow tie gives you a pop of the trend without going overboard.

 Military coats

Military-style coats are as popular as they’ve ever been – from parkas to trench and duffel coats, they look fantastic and do a good job of keeping you toasty, too. Take a look at Jacamo’s winter range this year to get some inspiration. You can wear a puffer gilet underneath to keep you warm when winter really starts to bite.

The explorer

Another strong trend this year is wrapping up like you’re off to Antarctica for a few months, rather than nipping to the corner shop for a packet of crisps. As Fashionbeans notes, this look comprises lug-sole boots, fur-lined hooded overcoats and accessories like beanies and thick socks. Choose primary colours as much as possible (they make you easier to see in the snow).

Stripey knitwear

Christmas jumpers are all well and good, but if you really want to hop on board the knitwear train, make it stripey. Pair a striped jumper with ripped jeans and a leather jacket for a grungey outfit that’s as warm as it is trendy, or go with some cosy corduroy trousers for a cuddlier look.

Celebrity Wedding Looks for Less!

December 16, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

Jasmine’s fashion mantra is “when in doubt, wear all black.” Although agreeable, what about the day when you will be wearing all white? Celebrities have shown us the right and wrong ways to sport a wedding dress – they face the scrutiny of the public and potentially the harsh words of Joan Rivers on Fashion Police. Below are some of the fashionistas that have received positive remarks and made their own wedding dress iconic.

Kate Middleton looked absolutely breathtaking in this one-of-a-kind Alexander McQueen wedding gown designed just for her. Although there have been rumors floating around about the cost, no reliable details have surfaced. We do know, of course, that the price tag is pretty heft. With the dress on the right, you get an identical silhouette and neckline to Kate’s dress but at just a fraction of the price on Wedding Dress Bee for $378.98 – a great alternative for anyone looking to redo this classic look.

If you’ve seen the Sex and the City movie, there is no way you could forget this stunning dress Carrie Bradshaw wore on her wedding day. We all gasped in delight when the gown was sent to her front door from the designer herself, Vivienne Westwood. The dramatic neckline and full skirt make this unique piece a must-have for any daring bride. If you don’t have the budget to afford the $17,000+ Westwood original, opt for the dress on the right by Sarah Danielle for $1,125.

Although Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries was short-lived, her wedding day was nothing short of elegance and beauty. Her gown, created by bridal fashion designer Vera Wang, had a mermaid silhouette that hugged Kim’s curves and gave the right amount of drama with a dramatic layered skirt. Similarly on the right for $999.99, Vera Wang recreated the Kardashian dress for her affordable White by Vera Wang collection at David’s Bridal.

Styling yourself on your wedding day can be overwhelming and a little bit of a hassle. Taking some fashion pointers from celebrities that have done it right when exchanging their nuptials can lessen the amount of worry and time spent planning. Do a little bit of searching for the perfect celebrity-inspired look that really speaks to you and go from there!

Monica Nolan has been a bridal fashion guru for many years and she prides herself on helping women find their dream wedding dress for less.
