The Year of The Snake

I’ve always had a thing for snakes. It started back in elementary school when my homeroom teacher Mr. Richardson had his classroom filled with tanks of snakes and we were required to actually feed them mice. Was it gross? Absolutely! But I was one of the very few that liked the snakes… they have this edgy, seductive feel to them that has always appealed to me. I even remember buying a snake thumb ring in middle school that I wore all the way through high school. Fast forward a few year (really just a few) and here we are celebrating the Year of the Snake and I’m still just as intrigued as ever. Check out some of my favorite pieces that incorporate the snake trend from Yesstyle.

Stylish Swimsuits

With summer around the corner and my weight loss efforts in full gear, I’m starting to get excited about trying different styles of stylish swimsuits.  So far I’ve gotten a striped bikini and a pastel tankini but as the numbers on the scale go down my choice in swimsuits are getting a tad smaller! 🙂  Nothing too skimpy; just want to enjoy all the hard work I’ve put into losing the weight!  In my last swimsuit post I covered the trends and patterns in bathing suits for women but this time I wanted to focus more on the fits and my favorite cover ups.  Believe it or not, most of my swimsuit shopping is online and I’ve really lucked out with great selections and bargains.  The r collection by raisins swimwear has bold fun prints that make it easy to mix and match prints and fits.  I love mismatched bathing suits and style them just as I would an outfit with accessories, and raisins swimwear is perfect just for that!

Tankini

This tankini has the perfect balance of sexy and coverage.  I love the open back and halter front.  This one allows the best of both worlds – it’s not just a tankini for juniors!  I can even see the top worn with a maxi skirt after a day on the beach.

 Bikini

This bikini is my favorite and I hope by this summer I am shape to wear it. But if you’re lucky enough to pull it off go for it!  This top is adorable and will definitely  stand out on the beach…and like the top in the tankini it can be worn with a skirt or shorts – so cute!

Bandeau

A roll waste pant bikini bottom in a one of a kind bandeaus swimsuit that’s a must have.  The flattering style provides coverage on all the right spots and makes it easier to pull off a bandeau top by balancing out the top and bottom (I own three and swear by them).

One Piece

While I’m definitely enjoying the fact that I can wear a two piece this year, I’m also a mom and need to have a one piece handy.  This sun goddess one piece by r collection gives both the sexy in the back and coverage in the front  – perfection!!

Cover-up

My absolute favorite part of swimsuit shopping is picking out a cute beach cover up!  Normally I would pick out something loose and comfy but I also love the idea of a cute romper.  A solid romper can be worn all day and night over swimsuits.  A must have for vacation or even just for fun with a pair of wedges.

Effortless Stripes

Stripes are my favorite pattern and I’m always looking for ways to incorporate them into my outfits.  It’s such a classic pattern that will never go out of style and I just love the way it gives outfits an effortless laid back feel.  Best of all stripes are super easy to dress up or down and can be worn as an accent in the form of accessories or even shoes.   During the warmer seasons stripe exude a nautical vibe but it’s such a versatile pattern that it can stand on its own in any season and in any color (although my personal fave is basic black and white).  Famous fashionista’s like Olivia Palermo and Kim Kardashian wear stripes flawlessly year after year but you don’t need to break the bank to wear this trend. Check out some cool striped pieces from Target below and how to incorporate them into your spring wardrobe.  Tip:  When shopping for stripes always keep in mind that the smaller the stripe the smaller you look – and that goes for accessories as well.

A striped linen blazer will give any of your basic favorites a polished look.  Wear over a tank or tee with cut off shorts or jeans.

Striped Linen Blazer – $30 | Denim Shorts – $20 | Graphic Tee – $18 | Quilted Cross Body Bag – $19.99 | Thong Sandals – $19.99

Striped tank tops are a must have for every season and style!  I have probably a dozen in tons of colors and styles and I let them peek out underneath tees, sweaters and jackets.

Stripe Cowl Neck Tank – $14.99 | Pleated Maxi Skirt – $20 | Pullover Shrug – $11 | Laverne Flip Flops – $14.99 | Chiffon Crossbody – $26.99 | Straw Fedora – $12.99

I love me a striped skirt!  A casual “Audrey Hepburn” like piece that’s perfect for spring and summer nights.

Stripe Skirt – $19.99 | Lace Top – $17.99 | Stripe Thong Sandal – $19.99 | Envelope Clutch – $19.99

A striped boat neck sweater is the epitome of spring!  Give it a go with bright skinny jeans and heels.

Stripe Boat Neck Sweater – $22.99 | Colored Skinny Jeans– $22.99 | Button Down – $18 | Pointy Toe Pump – $39.99 | Envelope Clutch – $24.99

This peplum and stripe dress is so chic and flattering (click here to see Kourtney Kardashian in a peplum and stripe outfit).  The peplum can help create curves and flatter those who have them while the thin stripes provide all the style.  Pair with a denim jacket and a colored belt for some extra oomph.

Stripe Peplum Dress – $24.99 | Platform Pumps – $29.99 | Satchel – $29.99

Kardashian Kollection Chain Print Dress

Love this Kardahian Kollection dress from Sears!  It was originally $54.99 but it was 30% off so I got it for only $34.99.  I was planning on wearing it without the cardigan and with wedges but I was freezing so I wore it with my cardigan and booties.   I’m pretty sure I’m going to be wearing this dress a lot!  The chain print gives it a expensive look but the fit keeps it flirty and fun. Next time I’m going to try it with leggings and a denim jacket. 🙂

What I’m Wearing:

Wrap Sundress – $34.99 at Sears

Cardigan  (also seen here )

Fringed Booties – $11.99 at Sears

Tote Bag c/o Angela & Roi (also seen here)

Sunglasses $12.50 at Old Navy

Jason Bateman’s GQ Look for Less

March 26, 2013 by
Filed under Boys on the Side

Is it me or does Jason Bateman just keep getting better and better with age?  The man is hilarious, witty and his GQ cover shows he’s got a little swag in him too.  I know he was probably styled but he wears it well and just looking at him makes me giggle.  Yes I have a crush on JasonBateman!  Maybe it’s his dimples, maybe it’s sarcasm or that little smirk of a smile, but anything that Jason Bateman is in is alright by me!  The actual point of this post really wasn’t to go on and on about how much I love Jason Bateman, but rather to highlight his perfectly styled outfit on the cover of GQ.  I recreated his look for less (I included the hat just in case you want to go all out).  It’s a great outfit for spring and maybe even a stylish easter outfit for those boys out there who don’t like the whole suit and tie thing.

Blazer – $39 at Urbanoutfitters.com | Gingham Shirt – $40 at Bananarepublic.com | Graphic Sweater – $22.50 at Yesstyle.com | Canvas Slip On – $52 at Yesstyle.com | Handkerchief – $17 at Zara.com | Hat – $34 at Quiksilver.com

Celebrity Diamonds

March 21, 2013 by

Why so much bling in celebrity diamond engagement rings? That would be like asking why there is so much blue in the sky or green in the grass. Bling and celebrities go hand and hand. From the posh cars they drive, the eloquent gowns they wear, the luxurious homes they own, and the diamond jewelry they gift to each other; where you find one you will most certainly find the other.

Diamonds have been a trademark of Hollywood since the early days, but the diamond bling craze didn’t truly take hold until the famous Taylor-Burton duo hit the red carpet. The diamonds Richard Burton toted on the famous actress, Elizabeth Taylor, were, and remain, some of the most memorable diamonds to ever walk along the red carpet of Hollywood. It all started with the Krupp Diamond.

The Krupp Diamond is a magnificent 33.19-carat Asscher-cut diamond. Burton, a famous actor himself, had the diamond mounted to a band and gifted it to Taylor in 1968. That, however, was only the beginning of the long list of diamonds Burton would eventually gift to Taylor.

In 1972 Burton gave her a heart-shaped diamond fondly nicknamed, “Taj-Mahal”. Worn with rubies and diamonds, this large, flat diamond was mounted in a yellow-gold rope necklace that graced Taylor’s neck where ever she went. Still, the most well-known diamond Burton ever gave Taylor was dubbed “The Taylor-Burton” diamond.

The Taylor-Burton diamond was crafted from a rough stone that originally weighed 240.80-carats! The stone was found in the Premier Mine, in South Africa in 1966 by Harry Winston, the famed jeweler who donated the most well-known diamond, “The Hope Diamond” to the Smithsonian institute in 1958.

The Taylor- Burton diamond is a 69.42-carat, pear-shaped diamond rated a rare D-color Flawless Stone; remarkable by any standards. The story of how Burton eventually acquired the diamond is long, and has many twists and turns, but in the end, Burton ultimately bought the diamond, and gave it to Taylor.

Taylor’s diamonds were the beginning of the diamond craze in Hollywood. Today, more celebrities than ever before choose diamond engagement rings and diamond jewelry over other types of precious stones.

Some of the most well-known, recent Hollywood diamond engagement rings include the 4.5 carat cushion-cut diamond ring valued at $500,000 dollars that Ben Affleck gave the beautiful Jennifer Garner, Khloe Kardashian’s 12.5-carat, radiant-cut diamond ring valued at $850,000 dollars, and Catherine Zeta-Jones’s 10-carat marquise-cut diamond engagement ring valued at $2 million dollars.

The diamond ring that currently takes the cake in today’s world of celebrities would have to be the one found on music artist, Beyonce’s, finger. This 18-carat, emerald-cut, flawless Lorraine Schwartz diamond is set in platinum, and is valued at a remarkable $5 million dollars. Sure it’s a wedding ring, but when you have a diamond of that stature, on the hand of someone as beautiful, and talented as Beyonce, it should make any list of celebrity diamonds.

Sheer Spring Trend

The sheer trend can be scary for some but I love it when a trend dances on that fine line between sexy, seductive and stylish.  For the most part the sheer trend usually makes brief appearances at special occasions or evening wear, but this season it’s actually hitting the streets.  Personally I love the feminine, airy look it gives skirts, button downs and even pants (for those of you brave enough to give it a try).  I own a few sheer pieces and I’ve found that the easiest way to incorporate it into my outfits is with tops.  They don’t necessarily have to be entirely sheer, but if they are I’ve found that lace tanks and nude camisole work best if you’re wearing it in a more conservative setting.  Check out some of my favorites from Target and how to incorporate them into your outfits.

A tee with sheer sleeves is totally unexpected and an easy way to spruce up  your everyday favorites.  A total spring must have!

Short Sleeve Tee With Sheer Front – $24.99 | Boyfriend Jeans – $24.99 | Prabal Gurung for Target Pumps – $39.99 | Clutch – $19.99

A simple way to wear the sheer trend in a more low key way is with a top like this one by Parabl Gurung for Target.  It’s got all of the spring stylish trends rolled up into one versatile top.  Pair with a pencil skirt, shorts and even jeans – either way you can’t go wrong!

Prabal Gurung for Target Sleeveless Tee  – $26.99 | Ankle Stretch Pants – $17.48 | Silver Pointy Toe Pumps – $29.99 | Clutch – $19.99

This sheer blouse can easily be worn solo with a nude camisole or underneath blazers or sweaters.

Sheer Blouse – $11.48 | A Line Skirt – $22.99 | Color Block Sweater – $19.99 | Peep Toe Heels – $29.99 | Teal Satchel – $69.99

A floaty polka dot top is perfect  to wear left open over a mini dress. Or go monochromatic with a white tank and white bottoms.

Sheer High Low Top – $21.99 | Cami – $8 | Bermuda Shorts – $19.99 | Sandals – $19.99 | Metallic Tote – $25

Purple & Polka Dots

I’m not a huge fan of purple but when I caught a glimpse of the $5 price tag on this dress, I immediately yanked it off the rack.  It was then that I noticed the flecks of sparkle and the POCKETS.  I was in love!  My immediate thought was to pair it with my denim jacket but I thought I’d give it a quirky look by layering it over a polka dot button down and of course a belt (I try to belt just about anything I wear – it’s kinda my thing).   I love the definition and personality the belt gives my outfits.
