2013 Summer Bathing Suit Trends

February 12, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

When it comes to bathing suits I need to have variety because they’re worn year round here in Florida.  For the most part it’s nice to be able to strolll on the beach any time of the year, but it can be a bit exhausting thinking about being bathing suit ready ALL YEAR!  With that in mind I treat my bathing suits like I do my clothes.  I look for trends and fits that flatter, rather than the itsy bitsy bikini (although I do keep one handy for those days I’m feeling brave) and I also keep an eye out for pieces that can be mixed and matched.  This year women’s swimwear is so fun and playful!  I’m loving the retro fits that are fun and flirty, color blocked two pieces that are great for mixing and matching and classic nautical stripes that never go out of style making them a great investment.  Tip: Tempted to stick to a one piece?  Try a tankini instead (see below). They give you the coverage and the option of swapping out the top or bottom for a sexier look.  Which ever style you decide to go with, Anne Cole swimwear has got you covered.  Check out my favorite bathing suits under $100.

Color Blocking: A trendy color block bikini with just the right amount of coverage!  Tip: Tie a large bright scarf off your beach bag and later on you can use it as a shrug. Color Block One Piece – $66

Stripes: This striped bikini is perfect to mix with solid pieces like the one below. Tip: When choosing stripes keep in mind that the smaller they are the smaller you look. Camel In The Sand Bikini – $36

Classics: A navy bikini is always in style and a must have for mixing and macthing. Tip: When mix and matching swimsuit pieces opt for a solid bottom.  It’s a lot easier to wear a printed top than bottom. Marilyn Halter Side Tie Bikini – $31.50

Retro: A floral print tankini is perfect for stylish moms on the go.  Tip: Keep a cotton cardigan on hand if you plan on making it a whole day at the beach. Desert Floral Tankini – $46.50

Summer Basic: A solid black swimsuit is just like your favorie little black dress – easy to wear for day or night.  Tip: Keep a maxi skirt tucked in your beach bag and you’re good to go for dinner or a stroll on the boardwalk. Lingerie Malliot One Piece  – $78

Stylish:  A embellished one piece swimsuit screams glamour!  It’s the bathing suit you take on your vacation and then sit by the pool and sip on a pina colada! 🙂 Beaded Bikini– $52

Love this bohemian ruffle blouse!  The little details like the bow string on the mesh lace make it look way more expensive than $60.  Perfect with your favorite skinnies or a chic pencil skirt.

Celeb Style Favorite’s

I normally would have done a copycat post on all of these amazing celeb outfits but instead I decided to highlight them all.

Solange Knowles’ style blends retro looks with a modern touch. I love the way the white Nicholas Kirkwood pumps play off the colors in this striped Ostwald Helgason dress.

Olivia Palermo always manages to work her faux fur vest into just about any outfit flawlessly, and this look is one of my favorites!  The orange gives the fur a refreshing spring kick.

The bangs, the striped fur and the head to toe black – I die! 🙂

What I love about Jessica Alba‘s outfits is that they’re all easy to recreate for less and aren’t too over the top.   Love the tights and studded heels – they give the sweet dress a little edge – perfect!

Thrift Store Find: Vintage Faux Fur Coat

I’ve always been an avid thrift store shopper and nothing is more exciting than finding something you love on the cheap.  Just the other day my son asked me to take him thrifting and I was SO excited not only because he showed an interest in one of my passions, but also because we were going on a day that offered 50 percent off clothes.  While my son was looking to find what he called “Cosby” type sweaters I hit the women’s clothing section and found a spotted faux fur coat for $16 but I got it $8!  I expected the coat to need some type of tailoring but it fit perfectly and it’s in amazing condition!  I won’t be wearing it too often here in Florida but I now have a super cute coat for my frequent NY visits.

What I’m Wearing:

Vintage Faux Fur Coat – $8 from Local Thrift Store

Mint Green Dress – $7.50 from T.J. Maxx

Pointy Toe Pumps $70 from Yesstyle (also seen here)

Modern Square Bag c/o meet mark find it here (also seen here)

Rihanna’s Miu Miu sunglasses

One of those celebrities who always manages to wear the latest hot thing in fashion is definitely Rihanna. A few days ago she was spotted on a cold, winter night approaching her hotel in New York, wearing this pair of pentagon shaped Miu Miu sunglasses. Since she wore them in summer, the sunglasses have only grown more popular. Just a few weeks ago Australian beauty Miranda Kerr was seen adorning these stylish sunglasses in Manhattan. The Miu Miu MU53NS pair can be recognized by the gold rim.

In the past Rihanna was frequently seen wearing Ray Ban sunglasses, so it’s surprising – yet refreshing – to see her change it up. It’s definitely the kind of chic pair you can wear at any occasion, whether it’s with summer or winter favorites.

It’s no surprise the Miu Miu collection is quite fashionable, knowing its part of the Prada label. The brand’s name is actually the nickname of fashion designer Miuccia Prada, who’s acclaimed for creating high fashion accessories.

The Formula: Peplum Tops

There’s something about a peplum top that’s so feminine, and as soon as you throw it on you instantly feel classy. I have a few peplum tops (you can see my lace one here) but the most flattering types are the ones that fall right at the hips and have 3/4 sleeve (but that goes for any sleeve).  This black one is like a basic tee and it’s a easy way to add a little flair to jeans or skirts.

What I’m Wearing:

Peplum Top – $14.99 from Kohl’s

Black Jeggings (also seen here) – $19.99 from Marshalls

Pointy Toe Pumps – $25.50 from Charlotte Russe
