Stylish Spring Picks For The Family

When it comes to online shopping (and I do most of my shopping online) I look for stores that have variety.  Especially at the begining of a new season where I like to buy  basic stylish pieces  that I can mix into my wardrobe.  Being a busy working mom I also look for stores that have something for the whole family to save time and money on shipping.  Stores like psyche.co.uk make it a cinch to do just that. You can easily shop by category, price, size or even trends!   With over 150 designer brands like Michael Kors, Barbour and Marc Jacobs to name just a few, there’s something for everyone regardless of style, size or budget.  And customers ordering outside the European Union get a 20% discount on their order, which is a biggie for me.  Established in 1982, Psyche has received recognition on an international stage, attracting the attention of fashion industry heavyweights in both the UK and  in Tokyo, Singapore and New York, including many parts of Europe.  Psyche aims to please the customer and make online shopping a pleasure so I can only imagine that in store shopping is equally enjoyable.  Check out some of my favorite spring picks below for the entire family.

I was immediately impressed by their vast selection: The tops range from dressy blouses with chic prints that are easy to wear for between weather like spring  (see below),  to trendy tees and preppy polos (and their jeans selection was just as impressive). Their shoe selection was equally diverse carrying shoes from affordable lines like Chinese Laundry to Ted Baker (I absolutely love the Ted Baker selection).   In this particular outfit I chose a light star print blouse, a faux fur jacket that I LOVE and gray jeans to create an effortless look that you can wear day or night.

Paul Smith Star Print Shirt – $62.39 | J Brand Skinny Jeans – $119.14  | Faux Fur Cropped Jacket – $59 | Paul Smith Cross Body Bag – $559 | Ted Baker Bow Heels – $124.80

The men selection was equally on par and just as fashionable.  I find that some online stores tend to stick to men’s basics and that’s not the case with Psyche.  Their men’s knitwear  and dressier shoes definitely stood out.  This outfit was totally inspired by my two teenagers.  They wear a pair of khaki’s, a button down and a light pullover nearly everyday.  I chose a white sweater because it gives the basic khaki’s a crisp clean feel and the polka dots provide a little flair.  Love it!

Hugo Boss Polka Dot Shirt – $143.71 | Armani Crew Neck Sweater – $137.41 | Ralph Lauren Khaki’s – $83.71 | J Shoes Brogues – $143.71 | Navy Nixon – $545

With spring comes rain and what makes rainy days a little more fun?  An adorable pair of kids Hunter boots!

Celeb Style: Sex & The City Inspired Horseshoe Necklace

My main weakness when it comes to fashion has always been jewelry. For the most part I buy tons of bangles and sterling silver rings but  there’s not any particular type of jewelry that I look for when I shop  – I just buy!   To say I have a rather large collection of jewelry is a understatement and my jewelry stands display years of collecting.  While I don’t favor a particular style when accessorizing I do have a tendency to like pieces that have meaning. From a 30’s vintage Bakelite piece that I inherited from my mother in law or spiritual pieces that stem from different religions, to a simple strand of  beads my mood dictates the choice. Often you will find me sporting a celeb inspired piece such as my name necklace like Carrie’s from Sex & The City.   Ironically it wasn’t until I was sent these horseshoe necklaces that I realized that most of my celeb inspired pieces are inspired by the Carrie Bradshaw character that I just adore.

I remember when the second Sex & The City movie came out I searched high and low for celebrity engagement ringslooking for a black diamond just like the one Big gave Carrie.  Although I found a good looking replica let’s just say that the quality wasn’t all that great and it’s not going to make it onto one of my jewelry displays.  These horseshoe necklaces on the other hand are definitely going on display!  I love love love  them!  The palm tree was added after I saw the picture of Alexa Chung sporting a frog and a palm tree on the red carpet and I loved the idea of the lucky horse shoe paired with the palm tree (which represents light ).  The little extra bit of bling just makes them look that much prettier and creates a perfect blend of quirky, trendy and glam.

I love it when quality and affordability are joined together especially with jewelry and emitations (I could not have possibly come up with a better name) does just that and more.  For more info on the necklaces featured visit www.emitaions.com

2013 Oscar Red Carpet Faves

Before I get into my Oscar faves I’d like to take a moment to thank Seth McFarlane for making the Oscars enjoyable enough to watch from beginning to end. 🙂 The we say your boobs sketch had me crying!  Below are some of my unexpected faves:
Anne Hathaway looked flawless in pink and diamonds.

Helen Hunt wore a neutral navy _.  It was okay looking, but the best part of it was the shockingly low price tag and it benefits Global Green.  She chose it “because it was the most beautiful dress I tried on and they partner with Global Green,” she said. “It was a win-win-win.” Asked if it was comfortable, she said “I’m not in my sweat pants but I do feel pretty good.”

Charlize Theron looked gorgeous as usual in all white.

I loved that Kerry Washington’s dress stood apart from all of the other red carpet dresses…she also wears color so beautifully.

Jessica Chastian’s minimalist retro feel look was amazing.

And last but certainly not least Zoe Saldana.  Her dress was sexy, stylish, sassy – the perfect red carpet dress!

And I have to give my homegirl Kristen Stewart a shout out for not letting me down and looking dreadful as usual.   Love her! 🙂

So, you should aim to find something extra special to give her on this day of appreciation; this year the UK celebrates Mother’s Day on Sunday 10th March and we are going to take a look at what gifts you could buy to symbolise how important your Mum is to you.

My One of a Kind Style

February 22, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

To help celebrate the kick off of the Diet Dr Pepper Sweepstakes on March 4th  I was asked to write about my one of a kind style.  In a nutshell, my style has always been eclectic and deeply inspired by music and movies.  Musicians like Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin played perfectly to my boho/hippie style, while actresses like Edie Sedgewick and Natalie Wood greatly influenced my flirty retro looks and even my hair.  While in high school I shopped the malls like every American teenager, but I was always looking for ways to add pieces that were unique and found on the side streets where thrift stores thrived.  No joke I hit every smoky dungeon I could find in New York in a fervent effort to add to my trendier mall finds (something I still do to this day).

My style hasn’t changed much and I still shop at the malls for affordable trendy pieces but as I get older I’ve learned to dress to my evolving body and shape and the thrift store finds focus more on jackets, bags and more importantly accessories!  I tend to lean more towards modern, better fitting pieces but still keep my overall look in the boho vein.  I believe that it’s the little details that count and not a specific style. For example, one day I will be dressed in a modern white jacket with skinny jeans but the next time you bump into me I’ll be wearing the very same jacket over a flowing dress (like the one seen below).  Two completely different styles that I make my very own with over sized bags, chunky rings, a stack of bangles and always – and I mean always – with a pair of over sized shades.

In my look below I decided to try out a trendy high low dress for the very first time.  I decided to give this one a shot because it has all the right elements of everything that my style embraces.  The feminine length and chiffon is complimented by a studded camouflage  top – I love it and it was only $25!  As soon as I saw it I immediately envisioned it with a cropped denim jacket and flats but when I brought it home I realized that it would look amazing with my white blazer and ankle tie wedges. The jacket definitely gives it a dressier look and the bow on the wedges give it the perfect dainty touch.

I’m all about the accessories, but it has to be the right amount.  While this outfit has plenty of character thanks to the camo, studs and white jacket, I had to add a ton of bangles! The belt was a last minute add-on that looks like it came with the dress and helped accentuate my waist a bit.

I actually debated on using a clutch but this zippered accented bag played off the camo’s masculine feel.

From the front this jacket looks like your basic boxy cut blazer, but the back is what makes it special and the high low hem accentuaed it even more – love it!

So there you have it!  My One of a Kind Style: a little boho, a tad tomboy, but 100% girly girl when it comes to accessories and shoes.

Believe it or not spring is right around the corner and with that comes the in-between temps that I love. It’s the sort of weather where you can still wear a scarf but dont have to bundle up, making it one of my favorite seasons for fashion (besides fall).  Most winter’s I can get by on spring coats (I live in Florida) but they are some what hard to find so I always head to the mall and spend a little more on them.  FIrst spot I always hit up is where I spent almost 10 years working — Nordstrom’s! Yes I’m still a die hard nordy 🙂  While they’re a tad bit pricier than the usual places I shop, Nordstrom’s is perfect for investment pieces, you can’t beat their sales, the customer service is world renowned and honestly buying online is a treat.  Check out some stylish  spring picks for under $100 from Nordstrom’s!

This weekend after I celebrated my sons 8th birthday I decided to take a few days off and do what I do best…SHOP! I took my time and hit a bunch of local Tampa boutiques that I love and found a ton of great stuff on sale.  Although I never made it to a mall, I did make my obligatory stops at Ross, Marshalls and of course T.J. Maxx.  My favorite purchases were the gray booties and chambray top seen below that I found for only $5 at T.J. Maxx.  I’ve been looking for this particular worn-out grayish/taupe colored booties for some time now, and I finally found them on sale for only $20!  The built in wedge gives me the height that I always want but still keeps me super comfy.  I can’t wait to wear them with my shorts and skirts this summer (actually this weekend because it’s going to be in the 80’s).  Click here for some outfit ideas.

I can’t believe he’s 8 years old!
