Must Have Monday: Contrast Trim Clutch

I tend to buy a handbag and wear it to death BUT I’m constantly on the look out for a cute clutch (especially one’s that have a detachable strap – that’s double win for me).  Clutches are fun, great for day to night looks, and easy to grab and go, which why I usually have one stashed inside my handbag.  This contrast trim clutch from Yeswalker is PERFECT!  Not only does it have the detachable strap that I love but it also has a strap on the outside flap that makes it that much easier to run around with.

I don’t know what it is about Target but it sucks me in every time!  This weekend I managed to get out and do a little shopping for myself.  It’s actually really rare that I go shopping just for me – usually it’s for the kids or for food – but when I do get the time to shop I go hard! 🙂  Anyway, I was going through Target’s clearance section and found every single item I’m wearing in the picture here (minus the cardigan, shoes and tights) on sale for under $50.  My two favorite pieces are the polka dot and lace skirt and the metallic gold satchel.  I love that they can easily be dressed up or down.

What I’m Wearing:

xhilaration Polka Dot Skirt – $13.98 from Target

Merona Black Tee – $7 from Target

Mossimo Gold Satchel – $8.98 from Target

Green Belt – $5.98

Tights c/o ShaToBu

Caspian Necklace c/o Twisted Silver

Oxfords by Sam & Libby

Pale Pink Ring $3 from Charlotte Russe

Accessory time with ShopNBC

I am all about accessorizing and keeping up with the latest fashions – and what girl doesn’t love jewelry? I say the more “bling” the better as long it is worn in good taste. Keeping up with the latest fashion colors is also important to me and I couldn’t be more pleased with the Pantone 2013 color selection.  Pantone has selected my favorite birthstone as the color of the year – Emerald. Although my birthstone month is actually November (Topaz), I just love the rich, luxurious dark green color.  Pair it up with Lemon Zest, Poppy Red and Monaco Blue, and I can picture a beautiful sunset that goes from pale to vivid in 60 seconds. And As a matter of fact, colored gems and birthstone’s are a great way of weaving the new fashion colors into your wardrobe. It’s easy to find affordable gems and stones in your favorite on trend colors to match your wardrobe, or you can invest in glamorous, precious stones that add that extra sparkle to your outfit.

Check out some of my favorite picks of unique, glittery jewelry pieces from ShopNBC that are in line with 2013’s spring color trends:

This beautiful Ametrine and Sapphire ring resembles a mixture of African Violet and Lemon Zest.

These are a couple more of my favorite items, reminiscent of Pantone’s Grayed Jade (ring) and Nectarine (necklace).

Curvy women look best in fitted clothing.  The idea is to play up your shape. One way of showing off your figure is to highlight your waist and streamline your silhouette.  Belts and heels can work wonders for your appearance (they help show off your waist and balance your curves).  Check out some of my favorite figure flattering picks from UK Plus Size Fashion Brand Curvissa.

Pair either one of these dresses with nude heels for a sexy figure flattering look.

Way Too Matchy Match

January 16, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

“It’s way too matchy match” is a phrase I use so often that even my kids know what I mean!  My pet peeve has little to do with color.  To me style should look effortless and when the pieces you’re wearing are too matchy match it looks intentional.  Take for example my favorite pattern stripes. I always have a striped tank, a striped scarf, or a striped sweater (like the one below) on hand whenever I feel something is a little too matchy match.  My general rule of thumb is, if it’s going to be a matchy match kinda outfit I’d rather go the monochromatic way and use the color head to toe.  Intentional?  Heck yeah but it’s a minimalist style that so chic – it supposed to be intentional.  Below I paired one of favorite striped sweaters, polka dot denim top and ankle zip skinnies.

What I’m Wearing:

Striped Sweater – $19.99 from Forever 21

Polka Dot Denim Top – $24.99 from Forever 21

Ankle Zip Skinny Jeans – $19.99 from Marshalls

Modern Square Bag c/o meet mark find it here

Shoes $70 at Yesstyle

Watch (also seen here) c/o meet mark and you can find it here

Aviator Sunglasses – $9.99 from Ross

Vintage Triple Chain & Compass Necklace (also seen here and here) c/o Twisted Silver you can find it here

Booties All Year Round

Womens ankle boots have been around forever but last summer I noticed them making a stronger statement when worn with cut off shorts and summer dresses.  Thankfully the trend stuck around cause I personally love the laid back touch it gives and when you’re from Florida like me it’s a great excuse to keep them out all year round!  There’s a ton of designer boots for women to choose from and if you choose to invest in them like I do, you can easily get them for less at stores like Payless, Target and many more budget friendly stores.  Below are some are of favorite pairs from Jildor Shoes and what to wear them with for winter, fall or summer.

Add a little attitude to your cut off shorts this summer with these prune studded booties.  Tip: don’t let the color and suede fool you – these boots can easily be worn with bright spring colors or summer florals.

Collar Satin Shirt – $28 at Sheinside.com | Denim Shorts – $32 at HM.com | Belted Satchel – $28 at Yesstyle.com | Sunglasses – $8 at HM.com | Prune Suede Booties – $295 at Jildorshoes.com

These black ankle boots are the perfect pair to invest in.  I paired them with burgundy skinny jeans and a sweater but they literally go with everything and they won’t go out of style.

Grey Pullover – $14 at Target.com | Tory Burch Skinny Jeans – $136 at Toryburch.com | Kardashian Kollection Fringed Hobo – $65 at Sears.com | Miami Chic Necklace – $29 at Modeets.com | Suede Ankle Boots – $295 at Jildorshoes.com

Another classic bootie that won’t go out of style and can be worn all year round.  Tip: tights and leggings make these boots even easier to wear, especially when transitioning pieces.

Lace In The Sun Dress – $53 at Modcloth.com | Quiksilver Sweetest Thing Cardigan – $61 at Zalando.com | Envelope Clutch – $28 at Americanapparel.net | Brina Leather Ankle Boot – $520 at Jildorshoes.com

I’ve had this skirt from Motel Rocks for some time and I’ve always worn it casually with a tank and denim jacket.  This time I decided to dress it up a bit with a burgundy batwing cardigan, which is so lightweight I can wear it year round, and for a pop of color I added a blue bandeau top. Burgundy or shall I say oxblood is my favorite color this season – it gives everything a more luxurious feel. 🙂

Cotton Batwing Cardigan – $5 at Cotton On

Belt – $15 (last season similar one here) at HM.com
