Nothing is more fun and inspiring in fashion than changing trends and fresh ideas.  But to truly enjoy the art of getting dressed, it’s important to have basic must-have pieces that simplify your life without sacrificing style and offer a ton of options for mixing and matching (whether your style is preppy, urban or classic!).  Check out this season’s must-have pieces by Merona from Target and what to wear them with.

Button Down – $18 |  Pull Over – $52 | Jeans – $22.39 | Boots – $35.99
1. A shawl pullover puts a nice, stylish upgrade on a sweatshirt and can be worn with everything from tees and shorts to jeans and button down’s.
Corduroy Pant – $19.99 | Button Down – $22.39 | Puffer Vest – $22 | Henley – $12.99 | Boots – $35.99
2. A good fitting pair of jeans or cords is a must-have, and if paired with the right pieces can be worn for a night out on the town or for a casual look for work.  In this look I chose a to add a puffer vest which is a perfect transitional piece.
Tailored Wash Chino’s – $22.39 | Poplin Shirt – $18 | Sweater – $18 |  Watch – $40
3. Chinos (especially colored) are denim’s “dressier brother” but with a preppy vibe that spruces up any outfit and are comfy and easy to style.  Pair them with blazers, tees or even sweatshirts.  Tip: for a more casual look try stylish slip-on sneakers (like these) or boots.
 Long Sleeve Button Down – $19.99 | White Oxford – $18 | Peacoat – $51.99 | Jeans – $22.39 | Scarf – $13.59 | Boots – $39.99
4. A button down (particularly white ones) is a no brainer and gives any outfit a crisp, clean look.  Tip: don’t tuck shirt instead slightly tuck one side in for an effortless stylish look.
Merona Kensington Blazer – $31.59
5. A good fitted blazer is a necessity in everyone’s closet and instantly adds a polished look day or night with any of the pieces above.

Fall Must Have Items

Fall is my absolute favorite season when it comes to fashion – the transitioning is fun, the layering options are endless and classic pieces shine against cozy fall colors.  Below are some of my fall must-haves and what to wear them with.  What are some of your fall favorites?

Cardigans, a striped sweater and denim tops are perfect for layering.  Pair them with army green skinny jeans for an effortless look.

A collared necklace is the perfect accessory to dress up sweaters and tops (especially when layering).

A ruffled turtleneck is a chic twist to the basic must have!  Pair with skinny jeans and a classic trench.

Lace is sweet and easy to wear.  Throw a blazer over it for a dressy night out on the town.

New Brooklyn Based Vintage Clothing Shopping Site – Nifty Thrifty

October 9, 2012 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

I love vintage clothes!  As a teenager, my parents entire basement was filled with bags and bags of treasured finds from my favorite vintage stores and my car was affectionately dubbed “the closet on wheels.”   It didn’t matter if clothes fit – I would tailor whatever I bought or simply tear it apart and use the pieces for some other project.  Because I currently live in Florida and vintage venue is limited, I couldn’t be more excited about online stores like Nifty Thrifty, a new Brooklyn based (my hometown) member-only vintage clothing site that just launched last week.  The site will curate collections of 50-100 vintage pieces organized into themed sales, such as ‘Weekend Fall Getaway’ or ‘Left Bank Looks’. The Brooklyn based company will initially focus on womenswear, with menswear and home goods soon to follow. At launch, the company will post two sales a week, then increase to a sale a day, eventually building up to multiple flash sales a day. This week’s theme sale starts on October 9th, at 11 am  and will be called  “Campus Cool”.  Pieces will include all-American collegiate inspired sportswear, with cute cardigans, letterman jackets, satchels, blazers and bows, by designers such as Marc Jacobs, Rag and Bone, Moschino, Chloe, Perry Ellis, Agnes B and Cacharel all available at prices that everyone can actually afford!

By early next year, there will be an archive of 1,000 – 3,000 ‘discoverable’ pieces on the site, with an average retail price around $50.  Check out NiftyThrifty.com and make sure to like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to stay up to date on their sales.
