Peplum Picks for Spring

Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

At first glance one would think peplum may be unflattering (unless you’re a size zero), but believe it or not it’s the exact opposite.  With the right color and pieces peplum can balance out curvy women and enhances those in need of a little shape.  Tips: When choosing a peplum top or skirt, one color is the easiest and most flattering; If the neckline is low, keep the hem longer (and vice versa. This is usually a given, BUT essential in keeping with a classy peplum look); bypass strappy heels or boots and instead try a slingback or stacked heel oxford to balance out the extra fabric.  Most importantly, keep the jewelry simple!  The peplum itself can stand on it’s own.  Check out some of picks below.

Firetrap – Contemporary Style With A Maverick Spirit

February 24, 2012 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

Investing in a new style can be troublesome. Either the outfits worn by impossibly good-looking models and famous celebrities are too expensive, or high street alternatives just fall just short of the mark in terms of quality or ‘wow’ factor. One brand that meets an ideal compromise between the two is Firetrap. Since 1993 they have consistently delivered classic style with a contemporary twist that doesn’t cost you a fortune earth. Their designs are quite earthy and understated – no garish neons or gaudy blocks here – so they’re ideal for anyone wanting to make an instant impression of style know-how without setting tongues wagging.

Long, flowing dresses never go out of style but this summer they’ll be in particular demand, with floral prints taking centre stage. A Bella Maxi dress from Firetrap, with its almond colour and warm red and orange flowers, is less showy than some contemporary designs and can be worn months after the summer too, with its autumnal shades.  Ladies looking to wow at work will find that Firetrap has plenty of alternatives to the usual pieces found in shops: a sleek, ultra-modern Ray Stripe Jersey dress gives just the right aura of professionalism without slipping into ‘dull’ territory.

In men’s fashion, you can capture the industrial look particularly well: wear Firetrap jeans with some worker-style boots, a chain-detail belt and a grey hooded jacket will add a little rugged charm to your man, while fellas wanting a softer look will love their soft knitted hoodies – you’ll have difficulty getting it off him to put it through the wash!

You can buy Firetrap clothing at Littlewoods, where you’ll find the styles highlighted above and much more besides. The cold weather may be barely behind us, but it’s never too early to start shopping for that summer wardrobe!

Top Five Wedges for Spring

My favorite heel has always been the wedge.  Not only do they let you get some height without the pain, but they are SO versatile that i call them my “dressy” flip flops!  Best of all they will last for years, particularly if you buy neutral toned styles like the Lucky Shoes leathered covered wedges (shown below). You can pair wedges with just about anything all year round, but my favorites include maxi skirts, dresses, flared jeans and even a super stylish jumpsuit.  Tip: to get more mileage out of your wedges, invest in a good pair, choose closed toe and keep within the autumn color scheme.  Check out some of faves below.

Love a man with a stylish backpack… it gives any outfit an old school (somewhat chic/geeky) street vibe that’s so sexy!  Tip: Don’t go cheap on backpacks. They are always handy and if you choose the right one, it’ll look even better with a little wear and tear.  When it comes to style points, consider this: Pair it with a hoodie and slacks for an old school touch; blazers and a scarf to class it up; or a pull over, button down and baggy jeans for a smart look.  Check out some of my faves below and let me know your thoughts on backpacks.

Sweatshirt Chic

We all have those days when we just want to throw on a sweatshirt and hit the road (particularly when under the weather), but that doesn’t mean you have to look like a mess even though you’re feeling low.  With a little layering (think tank tops or even a button down pulled out underneath) and accessories you will look effortlessly chic in a sweatshirt and super comfy.  Pair it with leggings and boots, distressed jeans and ballerina flats; try a sweatshirt over a flirty dress for a quirky look…or even over shorts with tights and booties for cooler weather.  Check out some adorable sweatshirts from

Look for sweatshirts with details like studs, fun patterns like stars or buttons…

Try a color blocking sweatshirt.

Dolman and batwing sleeve hoodies are very flattering and give sweatshirts a more stylish feel.

Instead of your basic crew neck or hoodie, try an off-the-shoulder like this skull sweatshirt  (sooo sexy) cowl neck or v neck.
