American Express Shopping Challenge Update

Every dollar counts this holiday season and I used my American Express Membership points (around $250) to purchase a 5  great gifts for family and friends (and still had a little left over for myself!). American Express has one of the top membership programs out there not only from a point/dollar spent ratio, but also because of their unique partnerships with retailers enabling you to stretch that dollar bill a little further. Check out who won the challenge and my top five online finds below and I’d love to hear what you scored on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday or Cyber Monday.

For my cousin, who’s a fashion lover like myself, I chose these adorable striped leggings for $29  They’re perfect with boots, slouchy sweaters, tunics or even a skirt.

My best friend is a tough one, but I’m sure she’ll love this beautiful blanket wrap.  If not, I’ll just keep it for myself!  🙂

My brother is a watch lover and has a pricey collection. I chose this Rubber Watch from Forever21 for only $21.90.  It has a ton of personality without the hefty price tag and perfect for everyday use.

I decided to gift myself a pack of white ribbed tees  (yes I know they’re for men but I love me a good white mens t-shirt).  At I got 2 tees for $18.50.  Best of all they are running a promotion called “Trade in your Hanes.”  Simply send in your old Hanes (or any other brand undershirt) and Ribbedtee with donate them to charity and send you a 50 percent off coupon for any product on

And for my father, who is an avid runner, I bought the Ipod Nano.  Not bad, huh!

Congratulations to Elena, who is the winner of the $250 Amex gift card. Elena provided the following winning comment: My tip: don’t buy something you don’t need just because it’s a good deal.  Congratulations Elena and thank you all for participating!

Fashiongrail’s Time Saving Tips With Samsung Stratosphere™

As a mom and a full time blogger, finding time for the things I’m really passionate about (like shopping!) is always a struggle.  I’ve picked up a few a corner cutting tricks that I shared below and would love to hear from everyone what they do to squeeze some time out of the clock!
I buy my kids their own colored or specific patterened socks (argyle and stripes are a fave!) so I can avoid the endless hassle of trying to match socks for four boys

While on the phone I usually try to find something to be organize, like shoes, jewelry or toys

Finding time to exercise unfortunately gets pushed to the side a lot. So when I’m out shopping I take the stairs up; when parking, I park far away and walk the extra distance. And don’t laugh…when I brush my teeth I do squats!

I take pictures of outfits and pin them on a board in my closet. When I can’t get my mind straight or in a hurry, this has been a life saver.

Take pictures of outfits and pin on a board in your closet.  When in a rut and you can’t find an outfit to wear this will be a life saver!

And of course, I would be lost without my gadgets (especially my phone!).

Top Five Christmas Party Dresses

November 23, 2011 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

Have you spent all your time planning what to buy your nearest and dearest and how best to impress the in-laws this Christmas, completely forgetting about yourself? Don’t worry; help is on hand. We’ve picked out five of the best Christmas party dresses from House of Fraser so you don’t have to waste time hunting around yourself; now you can focus on primping that turkey and wrapping your truly inspired Christmas gifts and you can do it all in style.

Karen Millen Hard Metallic Jacquard Dress

Every woman needs an LDB in her wardrobe and this one from Karen Millen is a real winner. Made from 100% silk with lace overlay, this stunning cocktail dress not only ticks all the boxes for winter 2011/12, but will last through the ages as its classic shift shape is timeless. This foiled lace and lurex panelled dress has a dramatic and elegant draped Georgette shoulder strap and fitted but not clingy shape. This statement dress needs little in the way of accessories. A pair of gold or silver metallic platforms should be quite enough.

Therapy All Over Sequin Dress

Shimmering, shining metallic dresses are the hottest styles on the high street this Christmas. This bold, golden dress from Therapy will help you stand out from all those fairy lights and baubles. It has a loose sixties style shape, with sleeves to the elbow and rounded neckline. Its casual shape is perfectly contrasted with the statement making material covered in thousands of golden sequins.

Cutie Mesh Waist Dress

This show stopping red dress from Cutie is unbelievably sexy. Its bodycon shape and mesh sections above and below the bust will make you the centre of attention. This dress isn’t for the wallflowers among you as it is figure hugging and leaves little to the imagination, but as a party dress, this is a real winner.

BIBA Asymmetric One Shoulder Maxi Dress

Maxis aren’t just for summer. This stunning dress from BIBA proves maxis are year-round essentials. This beautiful blue metallic dress is a mixture of classic Hollywood glamour and seventies disco fever. The ruched and draped detailing add interest and help to flatter the silhouette whilst the one-shoulder strap keeps it modern and fresh.

Warehouse Colourblock Soft Slouchy Dress

Reminiscent of the 1940s skirt and blouse combinations, this two-tone dress from Warehouse is relaxed yet sexy. It looks like two separates, but the creamy, slight rouched one-shoulder top and black tulip skirt are actually one dress. It’s simple, sassy and perfect for a night out with the girls.

Win $250 From American Express!

November 22, 2011 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

Holiday shopping is never easy and it’s even more challenging when you’re on a budget.  I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve wandered aimlessly through the malls with no clue what to buy and so frustrated that I pick something out of my budget just so I don’t walk out empty handed. But I’ve learned from my mistakes and so can you!  Try some of my personal tips below for staying within a holiday budget and getting the most out of your dollar this season. Best of all, American Express is offering one lucky fashiongrail fan a $250 gift card by simply sharing your personal budget shopping tip!

  • Make a detailed list and start with the most difficult person to shop for first.  I know they say, “get the easy ones out of the way first,” but who wants to run around on Christmas Eve looking for that one item you can’t find?  Not me!
  • Check online sales before hitting the stores.  Tons of stores have online specials where you can pick up items in store and most places are posting deals as early as the day before Thanksgiving.
  • If you’re waiting for Black Friday then plan on getting there early!  Lots of stores are on a first come first served basis and utilize tickets.
  • Don’t be afraid to wait for Cyber Monday. Free shipping is what it’s all about!
  • Bring your phone and sign up for your favorite store’s feed to get instant deals and coupons (some stores let you utilize a barcode right from your phone).
  • If you plan on using credit cards, choose wisely.  Companies like American Express are doing a great job educating consumers about the benefits of smart shopping this holiday season to include leveraging card protection and the benefits of Membership Rewards (gotta love them points!).
  • Crunched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday. Besides the convenience and traditionally great service that small, local businesses offer, American Express is offering its cardholders a one-time credit of $25 if they register an eligible card and make a purchase of at least $25 at a small business.
  • Suggest a gift swapping/ Secret Santa scenario instead of buying a gift for every single person you know. Try a holiday fun brunch with wine and appetizers during gift swap. Get creative and turn it into a yearly tradition.

How to Win the $250 Amex Gift Card:

Leave a comment below offering your personal budget shopping tip.  For an extra entry tweet the contest and tell us below that you did.  For a third entry, post on Fashiongrail’s Facebook wall your time saving tip and again let us know you did in the comments below.  For an extra entry you tweet the giveaway or ‘like’ American Express and Fashiongrail on Facebook (make sure you state that you did below). One random winner will be chosen on Novemebr 28th.  American Express will ship gift card directly to winner. U.S. residents only.

The Lace Button Up shirt with neck bow is just chic and divine!  Would love it with a sexy pencil skirt, jeans or even a pair of black dressy shorts with tights.
