Christmassy Cocktail Dresses

Disclosure: The  following is a guest post

I was out shopping a few days ago and noticed that the Christmas dresses are all out in force.  I absolutely love this time of year, with rail after rail glistening with cocktail dresses, glittering with sequins and sparkles galore.  That has to be the key thing I look for when I go to buy a dress for my Christmas party – it’s GOT to sparkle!

Christmas is probably the only time of year that we could get away with wearing such a ridiculously sparkly dress, so make the most of it.  We are lucky that gorgeous cocktail dress come in tons of styles and designs – the hardest part is choosing one.  A sequined dress doesn’t just inject a touch of glamour; it also puts me in mind of the Hollywood starlets of the past.  And another thing – cocktail dresses don’t have to be black!  I get so bored when I’m chatting to my girlfriends about our Christmas cocktail dresses and they all begin with “Well it’s black….” So I went on the hunt for a sparkly, sequined dress of COLOR.

When I typed the words “sequined cocktail dress” into my search engine, there were tonnes of sites popping up, and a lot of them were money-motivated.  The top sites were the ones offering cocktail dresses at around a mere $30, which got my pulse racing  (and so many styles, from retro and modern to racy and demure). I adored the red sequined numbers but was worried I would come across as a bit of a Jessica Rabbit wannabe, so settled with a gorgeous lilac dress with a shabby chic feel – brought to you by Kate Moss no less!  So remember, when it comes to cocktail dresses, black isn’t always best!

As seen on Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Kate Moss to name a few celebrities, the incredibly lightweight, flexible and fashionable Mukluk boots are seemingly made from magic (comfy and cozy-warm, they’re even popular for gals like me in Florida!).  The unique bead designs and colors of Mukluks represent different tribes including Cree, Ojibiwa, Sioux and Dene and are bold but subtle enough to pair with a leather jacket (like Kate Moss), snazz up your favorite skinnies or even with a sweater dress and tights for a unconventionally sexy look.

Muks boots and moccasins are Canadian by design.  Fur and suede is an environmentally friendly choice: it’s natural, biodegradable and renewable.  Or you can choose their faux fur boots if you prefer.  Every pair unique and individually handcrafted to the highest quality.  For more info on the boots seen on Kate Moss and more visit – www.muklukstore.com

Celebrity Redo: Bethenny Frankel

I’m a HUGE fan of Bethenny Frankel, but this outfit? Not so much (little bit costumey in my opinion).  Not only are the sequin shorts and gold belt clashing, but the blouse looks out of place and the accessories give the entire outfit a sexy pirate Halloween vibe.  So I took the whole outfit down a notch by swapping out the shorts with a sequined skirt (still sexy) added a sweet camisole and kept the jewelry to a minimum.  What do you think of Bethenny’s outfit?

Effortlessly Stylish Tips

October 24, 2011 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

I’m just like any other busy woman on the go that wants to look great but feel comfy without sacrificing style.  So if you’re like me and are tempted by sweats when in a pinch, consider checking out these easy-to-wear tips to create an effortlessly stylish look when time is not on your side:

  • It’s All in the Details: When shopping, pay attention to little details in the pieces you buy (they can be a life saver and make anything pop).  For example, try a cowl neck sweatshirt instead of a hoodie for a chic look; search for stripes to layer with a plaid shirt for a quirky touch; or give your outfit a little bit of attitude with these skinny Voi jeans from Bank (the biker details give the otherwise basic skinny jeans an edgy vibe and would look so sexy with a black blazer and favorite tee).  Lastly, try one of this season’s hottest trends…colored skinnies (especially red; the color alone will do all the work).

  • Accessorize: And I don’t just mean earrings and a watch! Fall is here and one the easiest accessories to wear is a scarf (it instantly makes any outfit look classy).  Don’t be afraid to pile on those bangles. Mix and match the metals and throw on a friendship-like bracelet to add a pop of color (for an instant touch of sexy use a studded bracelet). When it comes to bags keep them big, bold and structured.

  • Shoes: Break out of your comfort zone and swap out those sneaks and ballerina flats for a pair of lace up loafers or wedge boots to add a little spring to your step without sacrificing comfort.

  • Dresses and skirts: They are my favorite go-to items regardless of weather or occasion.  The key is to buy ones that transition easy; and don’t scare yourself into thinking you’re over dressed.  Another favorite trick is to match your maxi with a great pullover sweater and a pair of boots (to add a little masculinity).  Also, reach in your closet, grab that denim skirt and wear it with tights, a turtleneck and flats..instantly chic!
